Healthcare reform-Do we really want the government screwing this up too?

Being a Conservative I'm a firm believer in free enterprise and that's part of the reason why I support a public OPTION. This public health care option only gives folks an alternative to the insurance companies. Nobody is gonna be forced to change anything if they don't want to.. :fire:

I just don't think our government is doing much right these days. Why do we want to trust them with something so important? And government is huge! We need to be careful giving the government too much control. Too much control=Too much power. I agree something needs to be done and I'm not naive enough to suggest that a magic bullet exists which will fix healthcare but I don't think more government control is the answer. :peace:
you are right the government is messed up, but dont they have a responsibility to fix a broken healthcare system? who else would fix it? i think it is sad that both corporate America and our actual government is a joke

I don't pretend to have all the answers. This is a highly complicated and sensitive issue. I am an Independent/Libertarian so the last thing I want to see is a govt. takeover of healthcare. I want to see less govt. not more. If govt. takes over healthcare it will be bad for all of us I can tell you that. You think our freedoms have been trampled on already? You ain't seen nothin' yet!

I would like them to address the PROBLEMS with the current system. Take it issue by issue and work out the problems. This crap of throwing down a couple reams of paper that our elected officials are to lazy to read is not going to work EVER. These folks need to keep it simple and clear, so everyone can be on the same page.

every one acts like the government is real bad, what about the private sector? that area no one talks about, all they do is complain about the government, the government didnt send us into a recession, or charge us bull shit fees at the hospital, or make all the banks mess up, or make the auto industry chaotic, and i dont rmember every one complaining about the government before Obama, i think alot of people are letting a news channel decide what is right or wrong, The Government is actually looking out for us, DO YOU THINK THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF HOSPITALS CARE ABOUT YOU OR ME? OR THE CEO'S OF BANKS??????

yea, so why dont they keep it simple and plain? they all have their own agendas, they all ran for office to get power, not to help the people, i thought/think, obama is different, but not so far huh

It's all a matter of perspective. Governments inherently have a lot more power than the private sector. The govts job should be to regulate the private sector so that they aren't taking advantage of people and breaking laws. We don't need a ton of regulations, just enough to keep the corporations honest. One of the areas govt. has failed us is in the enforcing of the current regulations. The govt. may be looking out for us now but if we slowly give them more and more power..........when is it enough? When is it too much? Having all of these entitlement programs is very expensive. Somebody has to pay for that stuff. Where is that money going to come from? Taxes? Ok, lets look at that. If people have everything handed to them by the govt. what is their motivation then to be successful? Why work hard? If you are wealthy and that's considered bad by some then what is going to be their motivation to continue to be wealthy. Why should a few with most of the wealth pay for the masses? How is that fair? America was supposed to be a place where we all are born having the same opportunity. We know the system isn't perfect but are we all willing to sell our freedom for some free healthcare (that will probably cost more actually)? I'm not. I don't live in Europe or Canada. I live the U.S. I don't want socialized medicine. If you do then that's great but think about the questions I posed and see if you still feel the same. It's a sad reality of life but healthcare isn't a basic human right. If you believe that it is a right then isn't food? Should the govt. be in control of the food supply? Imagine how much power that would give them. I've been to countries who do control the food supply and trust me, you don't want that happening. We won't be able to sustain socialized healthcare in this country. We are in an economic crisis of epic proportions. The effects have probably just begun to be felt. This healthcare thing could send us into an even worse recession or even a depression. Europe is beginning to collapse so who knows what the future holds for them. The system needs to be fixed but govt. is seldom the answer to these sorts of problems. It's hard to see the big picture and nobody really knows if this will be good or bad. I tend to believe it's bad. I hope I'm wrong. :eyesmoke:

The whole "Do you want the government to screw this up too" argument is moot. 80% of the crap Obama is going through was brought on by his predecessor. Obama has been trying to un-do the damage.

Who else can send a letter across the country for .45 cents? The government, while it seems bloated, can do somethings right.

I am all for the public option. It is about time our country step up to the plate for its people.

This legislation is a piece of crap. We all agree something has to be done but to make these massive changes all at once is a potential disaster. Even after 1 year they still can't convince their own party about its merits, THIS TRASH WON'T PASS.

I assume you are referring to the postal service? Check your facts. The postal service has been hemorrhaging $$ for years. They've been in the news lately because they are talking about going to 5 day mail delivery service instead of 6 in order to save some $$. bongsmilie

That's right doc. And, what is this called, exactly? Its called RATIONING, and its the very same thing government will eventually do with government run health care.

I thought you might want to take another stab at the questions I raised. Come on Cloud, you can do better than this. :)

His predecessor:wall:? I guess you mean Bush... Get you head out of your ass wake up and look around at what is going on. The CURRENT US federal government (Obama) is in the process of taking as many of our freedoms away as they can under the belief it's in your best interest. The government is not interested in helping anyone individual they don't care about your health your job, family, cat, dog or what ever. It's about the money and telling people how they should live, because they know best.. Well they don't:!:
Some advice if I may, rely on your self if you need health care get a job that provides it, if you cant find one were you currently live MOVE or get a second job to pay for your own health care. Don't give me crap like what if someone cant work, granted SOME people need help but those people would get the help they needed if you keep the government out of our lives. Waiting around for the government to fix a problem they created with there meddling is only going to make things worse.

As far as the government being the only ones that can get a letter across the country for .45 cents. Last i knew the US post office was going broke and planning to raise the rates of a first class letter.
They know nothing other than taking more of the tax payers money and pissing it away on failed projects. If the government was a privet business hemorrhaging money the way they do it would FAIL. They would never make payroll or be able to provide health care.

I think it's about time the people of this great county stand up to this oppressive government and tell them enough is enough. It's time for you to tighten your belt the same as we have to...

Excellent post, Mooby.

I think what confuses the progressives about loss of liberty, is that they don't understand that when economic liberty is lost, political liberty is lost as well. The more we are taxed, the less political liberty we have. Evidence of this is how a few in the Senate (Pelosi, Reid, ect.) are holding the entire country hostage to a bill that the vast majority of Americans have continually rejected. These few are acting the part of a dictator.
