Hi All,

New to this game so please bare with me....this is my first grow

I started from seed 4 weeks ago, I have 3 going, OG kush and 2 easy Kush (UK strain I guess). I have a 200w CFL red light (the flowering one I think) and I've been using that the whole way. I planted the seeds into small 16 ounce cups and they quickly out-grew them....however, I didn't realise this until an entire week of slow growth. My watering shedule is a steady 3 days and the light is on 18/6. I noticed the roots were coming out the the bottom of the cup and transplanted them 10 days ago and they've been thriving ever since. I'm using bio bizz all mix and they have had 2 weeks on the bio bizz grow. I'm using a closet at the moment, I have no measure of temp or humidity but I think it stays (temp) at around 80 in there.

The plants seem small and bushy (well two do), I've topped one and its taking a while to recover. I think the bushy ones are showing pre flowers?? can anyone let me know?? I just need a general idea of how I'm doing and if there is anything I could be doing to help them? I was thinking about starting flowering next week but they do seem small to me? what you guys think?

Anyway - hopefully I can get a little advice. I have the major issue of odor control coming up soon and I would rather skip the whole carbon filter idea..the local grow shop seems to think they have something called Pro or something that will work but I'm not too sure.

Thanks for looking.

They do look a bit small. I would give em some more time before switching them to 12/12. I don't think odor will be an issue for a while with such small plants.

Your lights are the biggest problem (red is for flowering, you need a white or blue one for veg). You need a better one...metal halide if you can. I wouldn't start flowering (12/12) till there a least a month old. More veg time = more bud sights.

Also what your seeing by the main steam isn't pre-flower its just new growth. There looking nice tho.

howdy...your lady's look lovely, but could def use a lil TLC man. So here's a scoop for u. If your *budget* growing..totally get some new bulbs CFL are the cheapest. Also how big is your closet?! Mine is about a 2x3 room w a switchable ballast to run both HID/HPS 400w. If you want a decent yield off that I would get like 4 6500k CFL's of at leat 40w per if not more. The blue spectrum is what ure after right now for awesome veg. With that said..I'd experiment a lil bit with your nuits. What are you running again?! I found that a lil black strap molasses...unsulfered..you can find it in high end grocery stores!! and proper measuring of just *grow* and water...mainly water with this cause you can burn the shit out of your plants if your not careful..if your not comfy w mixing high N and doing a foilar feed...then just spray them daily with water...until the 3rd wk of flower....*to many places for water to sit in buds and you'll have more probs...bud mold etc..* Personally i'd veg her for another 2 wks if not more. *the more branching and longer veg+ happy roots!!= more flower sites aka able to grow donkey kong nugs* hope this is was a little helpful in your voyage. Check out ours!!!

As I've read here plenty, odor depends on strain.
I have 2 4 foot plants growing in pots outside=2 different strains, and even when I try to smell them, no odor.
Yours do look short to put into flower from what I've seen, but I'm a newb too.

I have a plant 3 weeks into flower and it gives off no smell at all. I also have one that has been smelling like skunk since it was a foot tall (outdoors) it smelled like this all the way though veg, so it really matters on the strain.

Great - thanks for all the help guys.

Yes, I was aware that I could do with the blue spectrum light to begin with but at the time I didn't have the money - I read of ppl using the red light all the wy through the grow with some success so decide this for my first grow - I will sort out a blue veg lamp for next grow. The guys at the local hydro store has been banging on about HID lamps but to be perfectly honest, they give off a ton of heat and the room is small and it's also my bedroom so I think CFL is my only option until I move in 2 months....shame as I've seen the success the 200w HPS lights have. This grow is for medical reasons, I have arthritis at 27 and they won't let me have medical pot here In UK...they are happy to prescibe me high strength codeine though which I hate and pot is more effective for pain.

So.. Keep veg a few weeks and sort my lights out ASAP is the basic advice. The grow has been going a month now but had a good 10 days of no growth due to root bound issues. Il carry on a few weeks using biobiz grow before cutting the lights then yea?

Thx so much - really helpful ppl here

Forgot to mention - its a 6 foot tall and 3x3 grow space. Thanks for the spot on the pre-flowers, I honestly thought they were but clearly not. I'm using 1ml of bites per liter every 3 days... Too much?

You don't need to buy a horticultural cfl bulb. Go to the hardware store and buy some basic 23w daylight cfls. $4-$5 for a box of 6. Get some outlet to socket adapters, which are little plastic light sockets that plug into any standard outlet. And get yourself a couple of power strips. You can plug the cfl's into the power strips and hang them pretty close to your plants without burning them. The whole thing shouldn't cost you 20 (pounds, that's your currency right?) The added blue light will keep your plants happy and compact. Because you are using cfls that don't penetrate into the canopy very far you are going to want to keep your plants short. If you want to keep vegging them check out threads about lst, I think there is a sticky in the advanced cultivation techniques thread. Also if your are moving in two months you will likely have to move this plant, or harvest early. Good luck. Mom's growing pot, sweet.

Cheers for this advice mate - I will get some blue CFL's but don't see the point as I will flower soon due to the moving date and the red bulb I have should get me thru ok till then? Not sure but I think I will produce a few buds. The OG is flying but I think I've given it too much N as leaves are dark green. This growing lark isn't as easy as I thought!
I could update a few recent pics later for ur thoughts?

Again - thx for all the help RIU community

Yea...totally upload some new pics...I wasn't talkin high grade cfls either..but yea if ure movin in a few and don't want to transport...id cut the lights back no more then 2 weeks from now...good green leafs is awesome...to much nitros would result in tip burn and curling mate..as far as litters to gallons I dunno lol...I use 15 ml per gal and I use 3 gal per feeding every 2-3 days w 2 gals of just water top off before feeding...good luck...keep us pisted....check out ours...she's 4wks n flower...wed love comments on ours as this is our 2nd but first journal :bigjoint:

Sounds like mt room setup lol...make sure u have a hole at bottom in the wall for fresh air at roots...and a hole at top in ceiling for popper vent..whenever u open it it will cause all co2 to leave as well...just make aure the lights on
