I have a cycling high pressure sodium (HPS) lamp. What is the cause of this problem?
Cycling is an end-of-life characteristic of an HPS lamp. Chances are, you only need to replace the lamp and the cycling will stop. As long as the lamp cycles, the ignitor is working correctly.

There is prob an "eye" that cycles the light b/c if it is a outdoor fixture they will shut off when the sun comes up and come back on about 30 min after dark..... i had to duct tape over an eye on a home depot street light....
