Help Drug Test Question

Hey everyone!

So, today, I applied for a bartender/server job at a local country club. On the application, it asked "do you use illegal drugs" and after that fine print you always have to sign, it stated that the company reserved the right to drug test employees. Now, when I read that, I felt like shit because there is no way I can pass a drug test right now. Hell, the only reason I applied for it was because the ad on craigslist didnt say anything about drug testing.

I was scheduled to interview with the manager once I finished the application. So, I lied about smoking on the app. The interview went really well. The manager seemed to love me, and I now have the job. He did not mention a drug test. The only things he said were left for me getting officially hired were coming in next week and discussing uniforms and giving them a copy of my social security card and id for a background check. No mention of drug testing or anything.

Every job I have applied for the manager has always drug tested me before discussing hours, pay or uniforms. Should I feel confident that I won't be drug tested? Or, should I be worried? I have never worked in a country club before so I am not sure how that industry handles the whole drug testing thing.

Thanks everyone! This could be a great job for me!

I just interviewed a few days ago for shipping and during the interview he mentioned the test... from my experience if they don't mention it they don't do it... if you want to be safe rather than sorry, go with the synthetic pee. most head shops have it. I don't think you can get your money back on those... good luck either way. stay high

Yeah, that my experience too. They always say something like "after your test we will have you come in for the rest of the background check, uniform, etc.". I guess I was not expecting to get this job, and I am a little freaked out now that I did. Haha it just seems too good to be true. It pays almost double what my current job pays for a much nicer working environment. So, I am just trying to figure out what is gonna make it fall through.

What about everyone else? Whats been your experience with drug testing when trying to get a job?

I never gave piss unless I was sure it was clean. My uncle stayed clean for 6 months and on the eve before his test he smoked a fatty. thinking it would not show. Well he pissed dirty and did not get the job at a Nuke power plant. Was big money he missed out on too.

Thanks everyone.

I think I just had a good idea to help put my mind at ease. I was offered another job today, and I think I am gonna call the hiring manager at the country club tomorrow. I am going to tell him that I got offered another job, but that the country club is my first choice. Then I am going to ask what are the rest of the steps before I am officially hired and start working. Like how long does their background check take, how is training handled etc etc. Do yall think that would be a good idea? If there is a drug test, think he would mention it with this approach?

Sounds like to me the statement "we reserve the right to drug test" means it's only done if it is needed, like in the case of a work place accident. If you needed to worry about it now the application probably would have said "pre employment drug test". Thats just my opinion though. Good luck and a big fat congrats!!!!

The country clubs around here do not do testing. I know because people who work there would not pass a drug screen, plus Ive been told by a couple guys who work there they dont test. They claim they do. That really doesn't help you though as I don't know about the place you applied at. Good luck bro.

Thanks! Yeah thats what I am thinking about the whole thing too! But it would be such a good job for me that I am just waiting to get the rug pulled out from under me. lol That is why I am thinking of just calling tomorrow and finding out what the rest of the preemployment steps. At least that way my mind will be a little at ease.

Thanks for the support everyone!

Yeah I have been to a different local country club and I swear half the people there were more baked than I was! Hopefully, that is a sign that the local country clubs around here don't test. God, I just hope this place doesnt! If I hadnt of stumbled across it randomly I would have detoxed....instead of smoking a few joints of kush the night before lol.

I probably would not say you have another job or ask what the pre-employment steps are, you want them to know ur serious about working there, and you certainly don't want to raise any suspicion. I would instead call and say how excited you are to be part of such a great company/team and ask for a start date(for preperations). Chances are if they give you a start day with no mention of the drug test, you are more than likely in the clear. Just relax and be cool!!!

Thanks for the tip! I just got off the phone with the manager. I asked him for a rough time frame until I would be working my first shift. He said that as long as my background check comes back and I'm not a fugitive or known crime lord that I would be working within a day or two. Gonna go in next week to give them my paperwork for the background check. I will know for sure then, but it does sound like I should be in the clear!

Thanks everyone!
