Help! Grow kits! Is a good idea for a beginner?

Hello to everyone! I am a beginner in grow generally any kind of plants. I did a great search and I found the following grow kits :




My crucial problem is to eliminate any odour and to find an easy kit for a beginner !

what is your advice?

No, kits generally have much lower quality items than if you were to piece it out. Often shipping of kits can be more expensive than say an amazon prime subscription and choosing exactly what you want.

If you are growing for personal use, how many grams of flower would you need in a 4 month period?

Kits can be an inexpensive way for beginners to try growing pot and if it doesn't work out it's not a huge loss as the startup was dirt cheap. That being said starting up with dirt cheap gear is often the reason it doesn't work out.

If you are deciding between the two I'd go with the 2nd one for it's larger size. They seem to use the same light which is known as a blurple LED and scoffed at by those in the know tho they will grow plants. I'm an HID light fan myself.

Neither say whether there is a speed controller on the fans and either will be very loud at full speed if noise is a concern. Still noisy at the lowest speed too but not as bad.

You'll need an oscillating fan to move air around in there or a couple of clip-on fans at least. Do you have a small space you could veg plants in then move to the tent for flowering? Or use autoflowering fem seeds then you can veg and flower in the same space for a continuous harvest out of the one tent.

I'm not a fan of coco either. Seems to need multiple waterings daily where with a peat-based grow media you water til soaked then allow to dry out before watering again. I use ProMix HP which also has lots of perlite in and works great straight out of the bag or bale. Once or twice a week waterings depending on plant and pot sizes.

I would maybe read more in the forums and see how others have fared using similar setups before paying for gear. I'm sure there are plenty of threads using kits like those. Read some books from this link too. Good luck!

I found a great spot to download FREE POT BOOKS . I downloaded a grow bible first and got lots more. Books look great and complete like the real ones I have here. No web site but just a page of links. Just right click on what you want and then "Save Link As" to download so they don't open first as many are 50+ megs. They got lots. Enjoy.

From the places you picked I gather you are in the UK and I'm across the pond in Canada so wouldn't be much help there.

Something to keep in mind is how you want to grow your plants. Not thinking organic or you wouldn't be looking at something using coco and hydro nutes as you have. Growing in coco or other soilless media like promix uses mainly hydroponic nutrients tho there's nothing says you can't blend those with organics if that's what you prefer.

I was checking out the other grow tent kits they have and you can get ones with HID lights or with the LED and no grow media. Can you buy gardening supplies locally? Might be best to order the tent with lights and odor control then pick up the grow supplies locally paid for with cash. I would never order grow things online before but now that growing is legal here it's not such a big deal. Got an 8" inline fan with a 6-8" adaptor to hook it up to my existing 6" outlet and the adaptor doesn't fit the fan. Not the adaptor's fault as it's the right size but the fan outlet is too small. VivoSun fan so watch out for that. Another reason I don't like ordering online. Can't check that out until it gets here then a PITA to return and get another. I'll make it fit.

If you are growing in the upstairs of a house then HID lights might be too warm for you in the summer so LED would be best but really good ones will cost a lot more than the tent kit alone. You should have somewhere to vent your tent to the outdoors as well. Up an unused chimney works great but not into an unheated attic or there will be mold growing and ice in the winter that will make it rain indoors in the spring. Ask me how I know that.

I grow in a 7x9' room but the plants rarely take up more space than a 4x4'/120x120cm tent. Leaves me room to have a large fan blowing things around, the heater, water jugs and a rack of shelves to keep all the odds and ends on.

If you are upstairs and especially if you won't be able to vent outside then get an LED light for sure.. I would want at least the 120x120 tent even if you only want to grow a couple of small plants on one side. Then you have room to manoeuvre and keep a 12"/30cm oscillating fan a couple feet away from the plants. Doors on the side is a nice feature too so you can get at the plants easier if you have the tent full and maybe in a ScroG so can't pull plants out for easier access. Tents like that cost more tho.

Don't rush then end up with buyer's remorse. Think more about what you want to do and the space you have to do it before deciding.

I found a tent 36”x36”x72”. How much actual watts should I need? And what about ventilation? I need a fan, a carbon filter, ducting, and.....???
