a 100 amp panel will only cost about $70 its the labor that will kill ya and you normally dont add spacers unless you have less circuits than original. thus the spacer to fill the spot where a breaker useto be. you cannot add spaces to a panel if you have 10 slots you can only put 10 circuits not 11 or 12 .so if he added or altered your panel to rig for his needs its against code and can cause a fire .were there inspections done by the city.if not call the same guy out if you did not add or take away from his work if its been 4 or 5 mo if its been 45 months then your on your own. labor for just the panel exchange no running of wire just panel replacement your looking at $600 or so it depends where your from.

a bus bar are put into panel that dont have them originaly mainly to seperate nuetral from ground some older panels dont have eneough space because power was mainly only pos and neg. now most are pos. nuetral. ground.thats why the will add a bus bar if the bar came loose it can short, big time like you discribed. again i would refer to last elec. that worked on panel.

Something is very fishy. Get someone in front of it that knows what they are doing. Its the only safe way. Good luck!

shut off main disconnect to kill all power to panel then check all connections for anything loose and examine all wires for any bare spots and if u still cant locate source of trouble call in a lic electrician

im not gud with electricity at all. i just called professionals out and they told me it was gud. ended up not being good. the guy that came to day said the 220 breaker was a mini breaker and he put a full size breaker in
