Strain: Sour cream- (G13XHaze)XSour Diesel

Soil: 80% Fox Farm Ocean Ocean Forrest 20% MG perlite

water: tap water (from a well so there is no chlorine)

Lighting: 2X 27 watt 5500k CFLs
24/0

I've been about every day and a half because thats how long its taken for the soil to dry out an inch or 2 down.

As you can see by the picture, the first true set of leaves is turning brown along the sides and yellow in the middle. The cotyledons are shriveled up and almost dead but I know that happens naturally.

My guess is that this is nitrogen deficiency, potassium deficiency or maybe even overwatering.

What do you guys think? Should I start adding nutes?

I'd start with just half strength nutes at first to see how she does, also looks like it could be overwatering. That dry one to two inch down rule dont work in my opinion.

I will water until its dripping out the bottom. Pick it up should feel very heavy. I wont water again until I can lift it and feels very light and empty again, till its bone dry then heavy water and repeat. You just get a feel for it with time.

thats overwatering, dont water it for 2 or 3 days then givve it plain ol water. pure h20. that happens a lot when there are trace nutes in the soil you transplant into. itll get better as long as it gets plain water a couple times. i dont give any nutes till 3 weeks old or 7 or 8 nodes

Thanks. And yeah, I do think it's overwatering now that I've gone back and looked at more picture of it. I've been watering when the soil was dry and cracked, but its been still wet 3 or 4 inches down. Should I spritz the top once a day and water it everry third day?

You can, I actually have a little mist bottle with a mild mix of Fox farm hydro grow nutes. I will mist the foliage top and bottom every day, then only water when the soil has pretty much completely dried out. Remember its actually easier to over water than it is to under water.

Awesome. Thanks Siksol. I think I'm all set now. I'm gunna let it dry out but run out and get a spray bottle and so I can spray my nutes on and keep the surface moist.

I think I already know the answer to this but, is there a such thing as nodes that are too close?

Nope. Your nodes are gonna start getting real close when you flower. tThats kinda the point. But I wanted to add, its not really a good idea to keep the top of your soil moist. Just let it dry out completely. You want to let it get very light to pick up. If you keep the top moist and not completely water with a runoff of about 20% you'll end up with built up salts in your soil.

Oh alright. Thanks for the tip Flaboy. I guess I won't spritz the soil maybe just the plant a tiny bit.

yeah dont spray the soil, just the top and bottom sides of the foliage. Also go by your nute dosing directions. If it doesnt have a dosage for foliage feeding what I do is I will mix a gallon at half strength then fill my spray bottle with that, one full spray bottle will last a good bit.

Definitely overwatering. Other than that the plant looks like it's ready to flourish! She's very sad and droopy though, that could mean 2 things, over watering and over feeding. She looks pretty healthy so my guess is overwatering. Jordis had the right idea with waiting a few days to water. A quick tip for soil, for future grows. Weigh the pot with soil in it, dry... then water the soil properly and weigh it again. That will be your control. Obviously as the plant get's bigger, the over-all weight will change, which you can continue to use the same method of weighing for the changes. When the weight gets to that dry mark, it's time to water again. Only water to that wet weight.

yo mang i think that plant is way to small to be letting the soil dry that much that far down.. the rootball or system is only a few inches deep in the soil.. dont let it dry out too much.

sometimes if i know that under there the soil is still wet down like 4 inches then ill just put like a tiny bit of water at the base of my plant just to keep the top roots from being too dried out

Be careful about overwatering, I THINK YOU HAVE THAT ADVISE PRETTY UNDERSTOOD, ALSO,I would not give nutes till they were a little bigger,6 or 7 sets of branches,ALSO, if you put nutes in a spray bottle watch out for nute burn on leaves, I only use clean water to spray on plants.
You are going to need some better lighting for sure. If on a budget ,more CFL's, but if you can afford HID system , do it. A good compromise is T-8s.(flourescent tube).
Happy growing.
