Hi Boydie, have a look at my website www.stumpykiwi.com cos I have a few articles there about nutrients, water, acidity etc.
If you don't use nutrients your plants will still grow... there might be some notes in the potting mix. But they won't be vigorous and the older leaves will keep dying as the plant sends their goodies up to the newer leaves & the tips. If you want a good quality plant then you'll have to feed it!
And if you can, use rainwater instead of tap water cos it's much better for the plant (I bang on about this a lot!).
Pete.

pick a growing medium.... grow from there. 3 years ago I picked coco and hydroton and started with general hydropinics floranova line of nutrients. Floranova is their simple one-part nutrient line (meaning everything needed to grow is in their grow bottle... everything needed for blooming is in their bloom bottle). Very easy. In the 3 years since I've been able to add several different general hydroponics additives to make things ideal. But, to start, pick a growing medium... and pick an easy one-part line of nutrients

hasn't your mother ever told you "if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it at all"

wise, wise words

Hey my friend, congrats on your decision to grow first off. AF571, relax bro, take another rip. Everyone was new at one time or another. To address your question Boydie nutrients vary so much its really based on preference. But being since your new I will say this. Start with soil, it is more forgiving and much easier to learn the basics. DO NOT USE MIRACLE GROW OR BS POTTING SOIL FROM HOME DEPOT!!! This is crucial, as the fertilizers in those will negatively affect your plants. Get some fox farm soil from any garden or hydro shop. The floranova nutrients are good but are very basic. I would personally reccomend the Technaflora recipe for success kit. Its about $35 bucks and explains all mixing for all stages. It comes with a TON of nutes and will last 3-4 grows in soil. Plus its simple FEED, water, water. Happy growing friend :bigjoint:

Same here. Used Floranova series the last 6 years or so. Last grow switched to CNS17.......so so the way I felt about the change.
