An hps light will not run on the same ballast as a CFL from my understanding.

The components to run these lights are not the same.

You should find out who makes your 100W HPS and search online to see what ballast is used for it.

Also, You are taking a huge risk of fire mixing bulbs and ballasts. :fire:

This can be very bad.

A 100 watt cfl is actually a 23 watt bulb that puts out the same light as a 100 watt incandescent light. So i think you might need to invest in a ballast for 100 watt hps.

I am not sure if they will but it is possible. Take your bulb into the hardware store and tell them you need a correct ballast for it if you can not find the right one when doing research.

I am not sure what ballast the 100W HPS bulb would need because I can not see it.

yo man you can buy ballasts for 100w hps, i just ordered one online there about 20-40$ ill try and find the link for the website i got mine. https://highpressuresodium.net/
also for future reference your local hardware store will most likely not have a ballast for 100w hps, hell a hydro store prob wont either unless its a major chain store, there kinda rare. not many people go for the 100watters usually 250,400,600,1000 . HOpe this helps... cheers.

You have to have the correct ballast for the correct bulb. The reason why is the transformer changes the output voltage, current, and cycles. Next time you are at the bar look at the transformer on a neon sign they are usually 120v in 2400v out. http://www.google.com/products?client=safari&rls=en&q=100+watt+hps+ballast&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=NSjmSpH9MqnEtge787zHAQ&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=5&ved=0CDAQrQQwBA
there are some as cheap as $25. But you should also be able to find a ballast locally fairly easily, also check craigslist, search the terms sodium, hps, security light, flood light... good luck
