Doesn't matter really but it's better to plug the timer into the surge protecter that way the timer is safe too in case of a power outage.

If you want the timer protected, plug it into protector. If you need the timer to run multiple lights, plug the timer into the wall then protector into it. Make sure you check the timers amp rating, and add up the amount of amp your running through to it.

the surge protector cost more than the items it protects
if you mean power strip, then plug strip to timer to wall and be sure to put your circulation fan on a different plug

if you're starting out small the most you should have spent was $30-$40. i know searching through a lot of these bullshit threads could have you going in circles but the next time you're not too sure just hit some people up and im sure you'll get someone to guide you in the right direction.

ive never used cfl's so i cant tell you much. for 150 you could have found a 400-600w for 50-60 bucks more and would work for sure. but you would also need a carbon fan and filter. just try oit and see. even if it doesnt work out, you got more experience then what you do now.

oh ok, nothing wrong with that and you'll find other reasons to use them some where down the line. i got a bunch of cfl's that i brought as time went on, some for clones, seedlings or for high temp situations.

actually he could of gotten a 600 but then he would need bulb, (in or out take)fan, ducting and tent which would of came out more than what he actually spent.
i think he got the right idea, keep it small in a closet with some cfl's and take the time learning the basics before he gets in over his head.

Right.... i will keep everyone posted on the progress.... to me learning the basics is essential.... but money not a issue. i could have bought a hps light and all the other stuff but that wouldnt be good for the setup... its only a walk in closet... in bedroom, im not trying to draw that much power in the same room as a space heater (1500w), xbox, flatscreen and other things drawing from the same current.... thanks for the info tho
