Actually I beg to differ. I dont know if burying your plants up their stalk is such a good idea. I believe the base of the stem is also part of the respiratory system of the plant. I seem to remember from transplanting experience that thickly covering the top of the root ball will shock and possibly choke your plant out.
It shouldn't, the plant should also sen routs out along the entire length of the undergound stem. You only have to worry about getting the soil level right with trees, shrubs, and sub-shrubs, and mabye some succulents. However herbaecous plants that root easily can benifit in the long run if you burry them deeper when you tranplant them.

You can shorten the internode length eiher by increasing light insensity or by application of some growth regulators.

well what i did is held it up with a stick..but there are a few reasons why it could be too heavy.
1. the light is not close enough to your plants-what u need to do is bring them closer to the plants and put ur hand under the lamp and if it is hott on ur hand it is 2 hott 4 ur plants.
2.pot size- your plants grow according to space they have 4 thier roots. if u have a small pot the smaller the plant
3.over watering
4.temp

all have that effect but if u have all this a fan doesnt really matter but it helps with the heat so they dont welt over.

yeah man you can put the same soil that the plant is in all the way up to the first growths from the stem. it will start roots on the stem that is in soil. run fans at night cycle too.
never pack soil.

alright so i have a 7 week old girl, not she is 21in tall. for the first 4 inches she has little white roots that are extremly short and small, at about 7in there are two small, undeveloped leaves, theres another same sized one half an inch up, then another single, larger, undevloped leaf. then 4 inches up there is a pair of much larger leaves with sprouting ones with thin but about 1/4in long white hairs coming out from them, then its basicly the same for the next pair another 4in up only more intense of everything the last pair had. then again for the next pair. and at the top i have small formations of bud and a combination of leaves and larger white hairs. but its waaay top heavy, and the stem is weak all the way up. what should i do?

You didn't use one capital to start a sentence. I've read this twice and still cant make any sense of it. Also next time you have an issue post it in the plant problems not some 6 year old thread in the indoor section.

Hi more info would help what r u growing in, is it a seed or cutting..... By the sound of it it's a seed and what you said sounds perfectly normal, when a seed cracks it takes of tight to the light been tall & lanky and top end tends to loop over due to weight of top, you will find it will gain strength and straighten out, make sure u don't over water it and that the Fluo light is not to far from it or the strength will be compensated with stretching of the plant.
