help please fast

hey i just accidently had a plastic bag tough my 400watt hps bulb and some of it melted onto it and i turned the light off. Now what should i do to try and clean it. I dont have the time to get another bulb so i am trying to save this one. please give me your sugestions

dude when you put that thing back in make sure you have NO finger prints or oils of any kind on the bulb....or you may have yourself i glass bomb when you plug it in.

melt the plastic and wipe it off or carefully scrape with razor without messing up the glass ? yeah then clean it real good

might want to buy a new bulb, might be dangerous. im not sure though.

yeah i have been melting itwhich is helping a little but it is like putting burn marks on the bulb.

try this,,,, take bulb out,,, let cool,,, wipe thourally with alcahol as to get everything including fingeroils off,, wait until dry plug in.....................

Yeah I would have told you not to plug the bulb in but to use a heat gun or hairdryer and a new razor blade it would have come off pretty easy. Then a good old denatured alcohol wipe down to get finger oils off the bulbs let it dry and away you go.

In the future... Leaving it in a glass of acetone should do the trick, and remove any oils too. Just make sure the acetone doesn't go above the glass part, and touch the metal screw in base (most bases arn't waterproof, and acetone in the glass bulb would be very, VERY bad).
