Help preventing algae in sitting rez

Just purchased the 3 gallon octopot system for 12 plants. Need to buy my own rez. This rez will sit with nutrients for days at a time maybe even a week and I am concerned about algae growth, etc. It will be a 55-gallon or 60-gallon rez.

I have read that rez color helps such as black allows less light into the rez and also to have a lid on it but can raise water temperature.

Besides not allowing light into the rez, does color actually matter? Or, am I best buying whatever rez is a good price or large tote and keeping it sterile?
Does keeping it sterile hurt the nutrients inside? (Using floraflex hydro nutes (synthetic I think))

Thank you!

I use Pool Shock in my dark blue reservoir. It doesn't hurt the nutrients. Also you're going to need a waterfall or air stone to add O2 to your reservoir.

You could wrap it in reflectix. Insulate and block out light. Double check on the light thing though, because some variations of reflectix might have little tiny holes in it.

Wrap it in panda film (poly film, black one side, white on other), to block light.

I have panda film on hand actually but the reflextrix might be better for heat.

Yup got the airstone so will def look into the pool shock. Hell maybe do the reflextrix, with pool shock and a UV light haha... wombo combo lol.
The uv will kill anything alive in there. Personally I don't like to use chlorine or bleach but it does work.
I found the uv light to be the ticket for me. I never have slime anymore.
