Help with a cloning machine?

Hi all!

Without going into tons of detail, I have been growing in soil and my plants look fantastic. I plan to move Up to hydro/aero after I get a few grows under my belt and feel a bit more comfortable but in the meantime..

Tried taking cuttings and doing everything the way you are supposed to but they aren't viable.

I've heard of lots of success with cloning machines and (I know it's blasphemy to you folks but) moving them to soil after they get some decent roots.

I've checked out lots of DIY guides for cloning machines but living in the asshole of Canada (it is a large city but you wouldn't know it trust me) I can't find a good portion of all the parts I need (misters, manifold, net pots (prolly not gonna use these just the neoprene) so I have been looking around online trying to find one that is reasonably priced and won't cost me an arm and a tit to ship here.

I came across this one. Can anyone tell me if that is any good? Or does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

I would rather buy from a Canadian store but as seeing as I have yet to find one I would see how you kind folks reply.

go ahead and get it, cloning machines are the shit! That one is super cheap too! mabey try to rig out a humidity dome for it! best of luck..

You think I need a dome for it? I thought you didn't need a dome with this sort of unit and only need it for soil?

I have one here anyway that I can use or adapt (hopefully) from the soil way I was trying if I have to use one.

I made mine. Went to home deopt and got a rubbermaid tub. Got some PVC, pump, and ez clone spayers. Everything cost me less than 50 bucks.

No offense RobMar but did you actually read my first posting at the top?

I could have made mine too but the parts aren't all available locally and by the time I paid for the items I needed and shipping it would have cost me more than I am paying for this.

Sorry but...

The only thing you would need to order online would be the misters if they arent available locally, and even then that can be supplemented with a sprinkler. Neoprene collars only can be made out of kids playmats you can purchase at any megastore, that just leaves a pump, tub, and pvc which are available everywhere.


Either way, that seems like a decent price for an assembled product and should work well.

Yeah I will have to let folks know how it works out for sure.. But honestly.. I tried everywhere around here locally and apart from the pump and Rubbermaid container; none of it was handy

I'm looking forward to its arrival anyway and plan to put about 14 in there and take the 12 best.

My first foray into hydro/aeroponics and if all goes well I can slowly move away from soil. I'm still not 100% sold on going away from soil as the only real advantage I see is the plants go more quickly. That and adding more equipment and more electrical (that part bothers me the most I think) that costs more money and has a higher chance of failure over soil

The seller told me 3 - 7 business days is standard shipping to Canada so I just multiply that by two and wait for it to arrive

If you live in a super dry climate (like me) I would use the humidity dome, if you live in a place like florida i would not use a dome...

Depends on the time of year here but being up north will keep it fairly dry come winter. I will make up a top if need be when the time comes. It shipped today and they quoted 1- 3 days so I am guessing more like a week and a half where I am.. can't wait!

Power Cloner 25 site, the best 160.00 dollars Ive spent yet .Almost 100 percent success I dont dont need but 25 ,It will clone 25 in about 7 days ,,,,,Power cloner is made by Botanicare

Surprised you'd have so much trouble finding the stuff you need to make one of those, unless you live in the boonies without a Home Depot, Hydroponic shop or Pet Shop for all the parts. There's even Lowes in Canada now.

Anyway, for that price you can't really go wrong, and it's about what I'd expect to build a hydro system. I googled the pump and it looks like it's probably going to be crap. $12 is a quarter of what I've seen for decent ones.

Hope to see how it turns out when you get it, and I might try picking up one if it's decent quality.

I have a home made bubbler cloner. I get roots in one to two weeks depending on the strain. Roots everytime. I probably have $20 in it. Besides the rubbermaid bucket you can get an air pump for 7 dollars and some air line with a few air stones all at any pet store it is really easy

What do you plan on adding in the rez of the cloner unit?? So far I am using that Humboldt Roots stuff, and some Clonex clone and seedling food, and I am curious to know what you plan on using.

Well, I am already pondering creating a new account and toasting this one as I spilled where I was in a previous thread I think but trust me Lowes won't be coming here anytime soon and it's one of those cities where; say for instance a head honcho from Wal-Mart showed up they would flip out at the way things are run (NOT) here

To be honest I heard you could just use water but I am going to try what I have seen in a few videos whereby you just put some rooting gel on the clone (or cutting as my Mom would correct me ) the same way you would for soil but then put it in this machine instead. All the videos I have seen where they do this say it doesn't clog the misters and does a great job. I figured I would try it this way anyway and if that didn't work come back here and annoy all you great people again

I got an email saying it was shipped today so when it comes and I get it up and running I will take some pics and pass along how it is working out for me for sure.

Once it gets here and I know what types of misters it uses I will probably go and buy some replacements online to have on hand for when/if they become no good anymore.

Darkuser yeah I google the pump too but if it works cest la vie.. if not pumps at least I can find here.

FYI we have a whopping 1 hydro store here and while a hell of a nice guy; the store is a bit small and most stuff he orders in anyway.

i picked up the daisy 8 cloner... i have good success with normal cloning (jiffy puck, rockwool, etc...)... i just put two clones in to try it... im only using arrowhead purified water and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide... i just took them today and they r wilted pretty hardcore... i dont usally get near this much wilt with good old fashioned cloning with a heat pad and a puck... i assume i still need to mist 2-3 times daily???? using root tech cloning gel by the way... any ways is the major wilt normal with the cloning machines? also should i just be using water or should i give them 1/2 strenght nutes or what?

Got roots after 7 days.. was worried at first as my bud says it shouldn't take that long. Where the cloner is located has caused most of my problems I think but at least I can say all of the cuttings I took now have roots. Gonna give them a few more days and move them to pots!
