help with cloning!

hey this is my first time cloning, i'm doing the water clone method, i always see the tips of the leaves of the cuttings cut off on the clones, is this necessary? why>?

The reason this is done is so the plant wont concentrate on photosynthesis but instead it will concentrate on growing roots. Personally, I don't cut my leaves and I have 100% success. My clones are usually small, about 3-4 inches. I think size of clone has a bearing on this as well. Good luck!
