Hello everyone! I have tried dwc twice before and lost both do to root rot, I would like to possibly run a small reservoir to keep it outside of my tent and away from the lights. Has anyone made a small one or two tote setup? What sealant and fitting would work better for hdx totes?

Shouldn't need sealant if done properly and the holes are perfect. Uniseals work well on the flat sided totes and they allow for large pipe sizes that are harder for roots to plug up.

Something like this with some 2 inch PVC pipe. Just keep the pipes going in perpendicular to the hole and they seal really well, like I said though the hole needs to be perfect. A sharp hole saw used at a slow speed with a board backing the plastic will make nice holes. A hole deburring tool can easily clean up a lip left on the inside edge of the hole.

While I've used uniseals with success and a few failures I've had to remedy, too, I'd much more so recommend anyone doing a new build to absolutely bite the bullet and just spend the extra on threaded bulkheads. You'll need to clean the setup every run, and thoroughly every several runs. Being able to unscrew it all from each part individually makes this ideal. Uniseals are NOT something you ever wanna put back together once you've gone through the hell that is doing it the first time.

Yeah the threaded bulkheads are much nicer. I am thinking of going that route when I setup a RDWC. I am seriously considering making the switch back to hydro after this round. Tired of lugging soil when I can just dump nutes down the drain.

Those banjo ones are some of best you will find. The rubber washer is nearly twice or three times the size (thick) of other brands of bulkheads and a much better rubber. Not to mention the material of the fitting itself.

I’d like to have a waterfall recirculating or power head type, does anyone know of a set up similar I could get some ideas from?

Skip the uniseals and get some bulkheads.. current cultures ones are very nice. Can get cheaper if you go with smaller ones but I would not go less than 2" personally. If you go with the current culture ones you can get the root guards/filters as well, works with both the 2 and 3" ones.
