Help with magnetic ballast

So I bought a brand new Magnetic ballast 1000w hps/mh switchable I had a old 6" air cooled hood that worked fine. But it noticed as I was connecting the ballast I had to use two cords to have it running I heard the regular humming from it. So technically I had another whotte connected to the ballast port to connect to the wall because when I would connect the ballast straight to wall it would shut off ever ything in my grow room. And also i would have to press the reset button on the wall. So when I use is connected to the second cable the ballast is on and humming but now my good won't ten on. This led me to believe maybe the 1000w hps bulb was out. So I bought a new one. And yet it still doesn't work. What could be my problem any help please. Could the ballast be defective or could it be my hood?

I also noticed that the ballast says it needs a 120/240v cable. I used any random cable from my computer and it says 125v could that be the problem why it's not working?

Yes most likely. PLus you keep throwing your breaker because you dont have the right electrical for it. 1000w needs 240 cable and 240 electrical outlet. do you have that? I had to revamp my electric to 220 for my 1k w's

The common is bonded to the ground. Could be you got the polarity crossed somehow.
You'll need something heavier like a fridge, heater etc cord to run the ballast even though the computer cord should light it up.
All the wires coming off the ballast will be labeled as to what they are, such as 120vac, 240vac, light, common etc. The wires coming off the ignitor will also be labeled and usually there will be a schematic diagram stuck to the ballast.
The fifteen amp ground fault breaker should not blow because the maximum surge of the ballast is 10 amps.
