help with understanding the simplicity of topping

Ive read that topping is easy and it looks easy, but im afraid of cutting something off that I shouldnt of cut off... I upload a pic and has three different color areas I think I can cut at, but dont know 100% about it. From what I understand, you top in the middle of a Y (right above the new growth tips) But some of the nodes arent a perfect Y (asymmetrical nodes?) and some of them look like there growing a lil bit up on the leaf itself...? I dont want to start cutting off things I should be, thats why im asking, just to make sure. Im just trying to have a clear understanding (or mabye even a picture) to help me understand this. Thanks for any info on helping

That's a clone you'll not get symmetrical nodes with a clone only plants from seed. When they hit maturity theyll start growing staggered nodes like your plant I would look into 'fim' might be easier than topping.

To top your plant just snip about 1/4" above the node where you want to cut.
B4 u prune anything ask yourself what do u want out of the finished plant? Do you want a plant with four colas? Do u want a bushy plant with many leaders? Once u have determined that its easy to prune to get the desired results.
The cutting you have is pushing out side shoots out of every node. At that rate you'll end up with a very bushy plant with many buds, but they'll be small. For a beginner its probably easiest to stick with four main colas...in that case cut just above the fourth shoot about half way up the plant, pruning out any side shoots as it grows. Hmu if you have questions and I'll walk you through it.

I was watching some time lapse videos, it looks like you cut the main shoot, then the next two below takes over and makes the colas. So if this is true, when do I top the new tops? Wait until they have about 4 nodes on them and then top the new main one and thatll start the process all over again?

You can top where ever you want, I topped the main stem then topped the two that grew off, then LST then let it grow, then topped all and any thing I could ^^ working with around 30-35 tops now..on my original amnesia

basically u need to continue with the pruning as the plants grow. once u have ur 4 main stems prune out any side shoots as it grows...leave a few or you'll only get four huge colas...not that that's bad if its what u want.
Uncle Ben has a thread on topping for 4 main colas with diagrams...check it out
