Helpful Cloning Tips!

Hi guys I posted clone trouble I was having on this site about a week ago.It was my first time cloning and I was really struggling even after watching several you tube vidoes on how to do it.I have got this down now,and just wanted to share a few tips that might be hurting some of you that are new to cloning.First JIFFY PUCKS SUCK(DO NOT USE)!!!!!!!They hold way to much water and will drown and rot your roots very quickly.I use a nice miracle grow mix with peat, perlite and sand added.Second be very clean with your hands and tools!Third HUMITIDY IS KING(REMEMBER THAT)!You have to have 100% humitidy for clones to survive. They have no roots so all the water is absorbed by the stems and leaves(SO MIST DAILY) but dont over mist(common sense).Sometype of dome or sealed setup is REQUIRED.Dont over do it with the lights either.Your only trying to get the plants to root. You can and will increase the light when you tranfer your plants for growing.I hope I have been able to help someone because at first I thought cloning was like impossible. Its really just common sense.

PS:When you take your cutting at a 45% angle.Make SURE you peel a little of the skin off of the stem before you dip it in rooting hormone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right on for the tips. I use to think cloning was hard, until I tried it. Got a 100% success rate my first go. No rooting gel/powder either, just cut em' at a 45 degrees and stuck them in party cups with sandwhich baggys as a make shift humidity dome and of course misting them once daily. In about 2 weeks I was able to carefully remove the clone from the cup to inspect for roots. Simple as that.......

I have a grow tent for veg and bloom, and I use my bathroom for a cloning station. I have no cabinets so I hung a cord with 3 CFLs over a small stand supporting my humidity dome. I've had zero and 100% survive. My problem was always over watering. So now I am strict. Rock wool is best. but Jiffy pellets are cheap and easy to find. So, first I soak the pellets in water. I might mix a very light solution of B1 (Superthrive 1 drop/gal) and H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide 50-100ml/gal), but plain filtered, oxygenated water is fine. Then I take my cutting, clip the leaves, score up the stem and dip it in hormone. I like the gel but again the powder is easy to find. Then I put the stem into the Jiffy pellet and I am careful to not squeeze it much beyond setting the stem because I want it to be most arable and not compacted. Rather, I place the pellet on several folded up paper towels in order to soak up the extra water. When the pellet looks wet but no longer saturated, I put it into a humidity dome. I wish I had a small heating pad under the bottom to warm it a bit, but I don't. When I did, it all worked a bit better. After this, I never mess with it at all. I just take the top off the dome when I shower to give it air and humid mist. I place the dome back when the room is still foggy. Also, at first I use 1 23w bulb, then after a few days I add another and then the third. It takes between 1 and 3 weeks to get roots. They will all survive if I am strict with myself. But if I water them, especially if I water the pellets themselves, the stems will turn to mush and the clones will all die. I hope this helps.

you legitimately cloned with no powder or gel? thats crazy

EIRE. what do u mean 50-100ml of h202??? i can see adding tiny amount of nutes and some h202 is a great idea in such a moist enviorment but 50-100 ml a gallon???

Well I'm no expert for sure. That's just what worked for me at that location and it is only 3% solution. Which was a lot different from my last place, and since I've moved again I have noticed something maybe more important. Every location is very unique and what works in one place may not in another, even if it's just a few blocks away. I hear that I use too much h2o2 when I do, but less did not work as well at that time. I wish one method worked best everywhere, and I guess if you can control the environment enough then one method would do. But that's too hard for me, so I change my methods. Like at the last place I used a small cloner very successfully. But in the new place it killed and I had to make a big one that works better. But truthfully, I admit that I am winging it big time.
