hey i do not know:)

I am using 1000watts halide how far away should my light stay in a dixed possition? Thanks!!!
Air is @ 70 degrees at the vegitations area
the light is about 3 feet above the plants. To put my hand on the veg area, i can not feel strong heat from the light, is this ok? :peace:

Your temperature is ok so don't worry about that. How many plants are you trying to veg under that 1000 watt? Since you are using such a hot light I would recommend doing the hand test (put your hand under the bulb to where your skin feels like its burning from the heat, then slowly move your hand down until it no longer burns. This spot would be the sweet spot for the plant, however depending on how many girls you are trying to veg you would probably need to make sure that they are all getting the same light intensity. With this in mind you should do the hand test first then I would raise it just high enough where all the girls are getting the same light. Hope this helps, peace bro

Is your ballast dimmable?
As long as u don't feel too much heat on your hand it should be fine. 3 feet is a lot. I usually have my plants within 2 feet of the bulbs (from the bulb not the reflector glass).
At about 1 foot, even though temps usually feel fine with high airflow, I've seen tops start to become bleached or yellow from heat stress.

I woud put it down to 24" and check temps again after a while. If the temps are still good on the plants and you can still hold your hand there then move the light down to 18". That is the ideal height. I'm talking about measurements from the glass on your hood. Always measure room temps on your plant canopy. This si the most important temp in your room. Ue a thermometer with a probe that you can hang there or rig something up to hang a normal thermometer there. Check it after 30 minutes for a true reading.
