Hey Sub, quick question about trichome color

In one of my threads you mentioned that the trichomes pictured in this image are closer to pre-harvest:

and that this one is too late:

I don't think I ever see the trichomes like that, but it may just be because my radioshack microscope sucks.

This is what I see happen to the trichomes in order of occurrence:

1. Clear
2. Cloudy (like in the picture above). and maybe some amber, but barely.
3. Milky (white)
4. Amber
5. I think some of the trichomes turn into sap at this point if you wait too long haha. Happened to a spacebomb I left to double bud. Haven't smoked it yet though.

At what stage will I see cloudy/amber? Stage 3 (milky)? Seems like you're suggesting to harvest between #2-3?

hmmm.. I don't think so, doesn't look clear to me. Besides, is it possible to have all clear trichomes at week 8-9? Mine look cloudy at this point but not yet milky.

and this is milky, supposedly what I'm waiting for:

it looked like the image above on the Chernobyl that I cut

OR! You can just harvest some, see if it is what you're going for, and then sample the later harvest to see what suits you.

yea but I've gotta cure it first and by that time the plant may have gone past peak potency.

I'm looking at my JillyBean right now and all I see is cloudy/milky and there's like 1 amber trichome out of every 100. Don't know what's going on but I really hate this radioshack microscope because it's difficult to position it where I can get a clear view and not block the light.

ya haha that looks like jilly alright. shit's dense!
How did yours still have so many white hairs at day 70? mine looks done as far as the hairs, just waiting on the crystals.

yep I've seen that article here on rollitup, it's where I got the images

Pluck a few pieces of trich covered leaves off your plant. Then look at it with the Radio Shack Microscope. Make sure the battery is good. It can be a pain in the ass to try to look at the trichs on the plant with that scope. Once plucked off you can check the whole part of the leaf.

won't work cus don't the trichs mature at diff rates on the calyxes than the leaves?

I check all over my plants, but if you look at your top fan leaves and they are clear...then you know the buds are not done as well. It can be a pain in the ass, and your light from your grow can screw up your view...but I just check a bunch of buds and pluck leaves from different parts of the plant. It takes a lot of patience and adjusting the dials, but you can do it.
