Hey there md, good to see ya. Had no idea Maine Oxy carried dry ice. May have to grab some on Monday when i'm intown.
Hey mb, i have never smoked dryice hash, or made it for that matter. How does dryice compare to other methods? I hear it has a different taste to it but yeilds real well. Any truth to that?

It does yield really well. You just need to keep an eye on it, with good light. As soon as the color of the kief starts to get a hint of green, stop.
I really don't think it is possible for the dry ice to affect the taste. It's carbon dioxide and it evaporates.
It's so freakin easy. And quick. There are videos on youtube. Just search dry ice hash.

Thanks tet, does it tastes the same as bubble hash or dry sieve hash. Or does the dry ice affect the taste? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my hand stirred bubble. But it is a ton of work to hand stir trim all day and it does make a mess. I wouldn't mind trying dry ice extraction. Especially with my back injury, it is difficult be slouched over a bucket. Stirring for no more then ten minutes at a time is all I can really handle with out resting my dam back..

Well, sure the bubble is going to taste a little more refined. Depends how good a job one does with the dry ice I guess. Just try it. Take your 220 or 190 bag and put it over a small bucket with your dry source and some pellets. Shake for 15-30 seconds (no more!), invert and shake out like a salt shaker onto a very clean hard surface like the kitchen counter or table. I retrieve the larger CO2 pellets if I am doing a lot, but the rest just is dumped.

I also built a press (see my other thread about the Jack Puck I ripped off). It works great, and if I heat the container first I get something close to bubble.

I'm still here everyday, I generally put regular ice in my cooler and then put the dry-ice on top of that....keeps better on my ride home....

I read that dry ice will sublimate (evaporate) at pretty much the same rate no matter what you do (about 10 lbs a day), other than maybe keep it insulated. It is so damn cold that a little conventional ice wouldn't make any difference I think. Keeping it in your freezer is a bad idea for example. All that will do is cause your freezer not to run at all (which is ok I guess lol). Won't slow down sublimation though.
Also, if you keep it in a cooler that has a positive (snap or other) latch, don't engage it. As the dry ice sublimates it will build up pressure and could be dangerous.

The biggest difference between dry ice and ice water extraction is the ability to separate the kief into grades based on the size of the trichome head. You will never make a full-melt dry ice hash.
