Alright enough is enough, so much arguing about the benefits of CFLs Vs. HIDS, so lets use this thread to make our points and show off some nugs.
I'm gonna serve a couple up.

That HPS gets pretty bright if you ask me.

Bummmppppp.... Theres like 30 cfl-hid arguements going on in peoples grow journals right now, bring it to the battleground. I'm not trying to hate, just trying to educate.
My 1000w hps is glorious, it provides fat tight nuggets consistantly, temperature is not a problem thanks to decent ventilation. I currently have about 30 plants flowering as we speak, to do that with cfls you'd need like 100 bulbs and you still wouldnt get the high intensity penetration of an hid.
Now its my understanding that lumens dont practically add, that is to say, if you have 10 5000 lumen bulbs, they're still only putting out 5000 lumens. but lets pretend for a second they do add. My hortilux bulb puts out 145000 lumens, to match that in cfls you would need....
56 42 watt cfls
100 23 watt cfls
or a whopping 1758 13w bulbs.
Good lord, thats alot of bulbs. not to mention sockets\cord\power\heat?.
Now i'm not claiming cfls are useless, they're just fine for putting over a patch of clones or even vegging in a pinch, but i know theres still people out there who argue their usefullness in flowering, its just not the right tool for the job.
Please show me something to prove me wrong.

its been done a million times mate , anyone who knows anything about growing weed will know that 9 times out of 10 hps will produce the best buds , cfls will produce good bood in the correct hands , i personally use cfl ( 250w envirolites ) and ive used hps in the past , my new situation isnt correct for hps so thats why i use the big wattage cfls and i also enjoy the constant tweeking and moving of the plants and light , some people hate that but i enjoy it .
my overall opinion is if you got the space , ventallation etc for hps then go with hps ,and you wont be disapointed otherwise try mastering the art of cfl growing and you will be equally rewarded .

ive never used hid so far. just got a switchable mh and hps ballast and a good air cooled hood.. im expecting a big upgrade.. cfl worked for me for budding.. but it seemed to be very slowly.. i know i coulda used better ventilation in the growbox but i had good exhaust i kept my temps decent even with like 200 watts of 2700 k cfls...

i would defetely try cfl again if thats all i had but i know ill love this new 400 watt metal halide.... so far ive harvested twice wtih cfls and i ended up making butane hash out of the entire plants... the stuff just seemed to be not only kinda fluffy but low resin content i guess. it was strange the nugs looked decent although leafy..and low resin content i think..first plant took a ton of abuse early life.. that plant looked decent but had crap resin content i butaned most the plant cause the buds weren't getting the job done for me... my second harvest was from clones i had good nutrients so they were growing decent i early harvested them and hashed them, lol.. so ive got some experimenting to go..try out cfls worst that can happen is the resin content sucks. and u end up making like 3 or 4 grams super dank hash from the whole plant lol.. im telling u just chop it up right after u cut the plant down.. butane the whole plant.. u got smoke able hash in half an hour... fully cured hash overnight.. its a beautiful thing
