I dont know if this has been brought up before but doea anyone have a grow journal or know of a video using REAL high-power LEDs? By "real" I mean the >3W LED's. I've seen the instructable but I havent seen anyone growing herb with it. Let me know guys.

edit- When I say greater than 3W I mean 3W EACH, not added all together. ie- 3 LEDs= 9Watts

idk about that shit. i can find out. but my dude that deals as an electrician too. he said the only way to really get your money worths for LED's is to make your own. kus a 50 board of em on ebay u can make for like 20 bux not even, but u need alot of um. there not measured in lumemns. but they are the perfect color temperature so they are much better than other shit... simply u need alot more than what u hink usualy. but its worth it...

The best grow logs i've seen is BritishHempire (for LED-only) and The_B0fin (for LED+CFL which is probably the way to go if you're going to start with LEDs)

These aren't on riu but a quick google will find them on their respective sites

I really don't recommend starting out with LEDs unless you're not on a budget, have lots of time to waste, and like annoying electronic shit
If you're going to do it though, the high powered ones are the way to go. The cheapo low powered leds just don't have the light intensity to make that much of a difference. The high powered ones are still not that good, but better :)

You can buy 25 watt LED's so why stop at 3 watts ?

Basically if you want to get comparable results to an HID light you will need to burn the same and probably more watts with LEDs. They just aren't a smart choice to use right now.

Thats what I meant by >3W.. 3W was the lowest high power LED I saw so i thought I'd start there. I think LED technology needs a little tweaking before theyll be useful to us, but once they do I think itll be the best thing to happen to growing since HPS.

I'm not as confident as you are, diodes have been around for a long long time, it might be scientific laws stopping them from being the next greatest thing. I figure it will be something completely new instead of something we already have. 25 watts of flourescent is still more efficient than 25 watts LED lighting right now.

I think they are just getting popular because it is easy for most people to hook them up on their workbench by themselves and feel a sense of accomplishment, with it lighting up you get instant gratification.

Of course it's all just my opinion.

No matter what anyone says: LED's are a form of laser light and that is why there is not a kelvin rating or temperature (color) rating.

They suck!! Just like the people that sell them to all the unsuspecting young growers.

Example of dumbass: UltraLEDlights is a web based company that is trying to tell people that because they have met all the color ingredients, that they have "Full spectrum" lights for growing. BULLSHIT!!!!! they show a kelvin scale but ain't it funny that you don't see LED's on that scale.

Hummmm - how come dat i wonduh?

I personally don't believe they are selling. How many people do you see that have to think about buying a $20 HPS light ? So how many people do you think are going to drop more than $500 on an LED grow light ?

I would say slim to none and slim left town.

Wonder if anyone has experimented growing with a laser. I know it wouldn't work by just pointing it on a leaf, you'd have to scan the whole plant up and down the way they scan when reading bar codes.

I might try to find some internet info on it.
