High pressure sodium question?

No, don't think anyone can explain it you. Even if they tried, you are to busy posting new threads to take the time to read anyway. Simple put the ballast runs the light. Without it you won't be able to light the bulb.
Read more, post less. You could have found answers to all the questions you have posted in a couple of hours of reading. VV

Look man I don't know what your problem is but, I have read a lot on this. I am wondering what the system is and does all together. If you read about any post on this subject it says that this is the suggested light system to grow. That is it! I want to know the science on it. Go smoke a joint and chill out. Again if you don't have a reasonable answer to my question then "Shut the fuck up!".

HPS - high pressure sodium. Usually more red spectrum, which is preferable to flower in. MH - metal halide - more blue spectrum, which is preferable to vegg in. As VV said, the ballast powers the bulb. You can't screw a HPS or MH bulb into your regular lamp and expect it to work.

This is from the grow FAQ
https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq&cmd=article&id=347

This is from something they call a dictionary,
Ballast
a.Also called ballast resistor. a device, often a resistor, that maintains the current in a circuit at a constant value by varying its resistance in order to counteract changes in voltage.
b.a device that maintains the current through a fluorescent or mercury lamp at the desired constant value, sometimes also providing the necessary starting voltage and current.

Don't want to sound like I'm piling on, but damn, the answers are there if you really try looking for them.:peace:
