do not use halogen, and dont take advice from people wth 2 posts. first off, halogen does not provide any of the spectrum you need, and they are fuckin way too hot for a grow. you can grow with a 150w hps or metal halide. i hate it when fuckin new people come and give bunk ass advice. late

what the hell.... This guy doesn't know what hes talking about. Yes dont trust people with 2 posts.

70 watt HPS is enough for 1 or 2 plants. But remember the more the better.

Go to ebay and look up HTG its a company with good prices if you dont have a growshop nearby. I use a 600w HPS and my electric bill only went up around 20 dollars. Just say you were using a space heater or the toaster or the hairdryer, or the laundry dryer more often.

or replace all your light bulbs with CFL's, probably negate the cost of a 400 or a 600 nicely. Good luck

A halogen light, have you ever grown anything aside from a severe case of hemeroids.

Worst advice ever, you might as well squirt lighter fluid all over the plant & put a spark to that bad boy because the end result is gonna be the same,a fuked up plant that looks like a tater tot.

i was thinking of buying a A 250W Sodium (SON) lamp but i'm only growing one or two plants so would it be worth me just getting some CFLs? i mean before this website i assumed Sodium was the best, but now price wise and heat etc is making me unsure

ther have been some impressive floro grows on here, i have never used it but i have seem some pretty creative setups, and the results look rather good. i would still use the hps as a supplement if you can. late

it depends on if ur gonna grow again and how much money u wanna wrap up in it man. how far do u wanna take it. cfls will grow the plant but it's not gonna be near as good as a hid. if i was u i would go with a 400 w hps. u can both veg and flower with this light. it's not the best for veging but since ur looking to save moeny u can do it. HTG is ok but i dont like buying over the internet...too many people see what u do. if u dont have a hydro shop then htg would do. how much are u looking to spend. by the time u get enough good cfl's ur gonna have 50-60 bucks in it. for 40 bucks more u could have a hps annd for 25-40 bucks more u could have a metal halide conversion bulb. it's all about the benjamins and how much u wanna spend vs. how good u want ur crop to be.

hey cheers for the replies.

im only growing 3 plants max. might even be two depending on if ones a male or not. but its usually around two plants i have growing. i dont want to put my electricity bill up too much and also i have only a small wardrobe to grow in so heat may be an issure. im currently growing with a few CFLs i was going to buy a 200w blue and a 200w red, plus i the ones i have now. it would cost me about the same price to get 2x 200w cfl or a 250w hps.

also thanks for the links but i live in england, cant use those american sites.

I have a dual-spectrum HID. the dual fixture reflector/ballast and bulbs cost over 600 bucks! they are 400w MH and a 600w HPS that burn at the same time throughout the whole grow (if you want to see it in action you can check out the journal).

I like my lights and they go a good job. If i were to have my 600 dollars back i would buy a t5 fixture and a 400w HPS for 2 - 3 plants. If it is strictly for personal use and yield is not an issue, I'd probably try the first few grows without the HPS and flower early to avoid light penetration issues.
something to think about anyway :bigjoint:
