Hlg-185-36b question

Can the hlg-185h-36b power 5 clu048-1212c4-353h5k2? I'm a little confused on this driver, does it always spit out 36v to all cobs ran off it and then split the 5.2a between all cobs ran off it so. i.e 5 cobs ran at 36v and 1040mA?

Looks like a good combo to drive 5 cobs in a parallel setup. Driver output will drop below 36vdc if you dim the driver's output.

yes



it doesnt"split" the voltage, it is 36V no matter how many cobs are on it. but yes you got the current splitting right

I was 75% sure that's how it worked but then some dude started confusing the fuck out of me telling me he runs half of a cob on a driver or some shit and how running that driver at 5a will fuck it all up. I figured he just didn't know and was embarrassed to admit it after 45 mins and no straight answers. oh and I didn't mean split the 36, just that all of the cobs got 36v each and then split the 5.2a. can these be ran in series or do I need to run them in parallel

Side question. What happens if you only put 2 36v cob's in series on one of these? Do they just drive hotter (more watts)?

do you know what happens to voltage when you put cobs in series? not being a smartass just trying to help you understand the answer/concept and youre pretty close

I'm still pretty new to all this. I work in a kitchen so smartasses are no big deal anyways, im just more than appreciative to have you helping me out :) Judging by how you reacted I'm guessing that the voltage stacks instead of the amps though, which is why there's the 185h-1050 type drivers where it constantly puts out 1050mA but the voltage stacks which is why they run higher on voltage and lower on current?

no its a rare one, cant stock em all. A models are a lot more versatile than B for constant voltage models
Oh okay, I had previously just been looking at the 1050, 1400 models of drivers but then I saw the 48a you sold and was trying to look more into those options.

So constant voltage needs to be wired in parrallel? What I'd like to do is hook up 2 cob's to run at higher output on a B driver. Maybe push somewhere in the 70 90 watt range on a 36v chip.

I don't care about efficiency. It's only 2 cob's and I wouldn't need full power until the end of veg anyway, so most of the time it would be dimmed way down. I just want the headroom without buying more cob's.

What would be the best driver for that? A constant current -2100? I was thinking that before you recommended against a 400V driver......
