HLG 550v2 - VS - Alibaba light

Well i’ve been reading for far too long and couldnt believe no one had done a side by side soooo... I wanted to do a side by side comparison to settle it for myself once and for all.

HLG ( US Made ) vs a chinese ordered light ordered on alibaba.

GJ, good on you OP for making an effort to do a test for all to see. I personally think a lux, or, ideally, quantum meter will suffice due to the similarity of the lights, but it will still be interesting to see the results. We can assume that it will be clones you are growing?

So thats one 550 against 2 fotops(?) at same wattage? In a 4x4 each? My money is on the Alis here, they have more diodes and more importantly very good spread.

Ya i think im leaning this way too. The babas just have so many more diodes, and with their size, should have very good coverage for sure.

Im actually interested in this comparison

Also what were the prices paid for these units?

The fotops are 800/about 3 qbs worth of diodes. Its size is the same as 5 boards. At 200w they get around 1000ppfd in the centre at 12 inches. With 2 boards at 250ish each id start high and lower as the plants let you stopping around 16-18 inches.

Hlg lesson time by hello kitty. you ain't gonna win this one!
Will be good to see this if all things equal with the plants and minimum base nutrients no fancy shit just plain grow off.

Meters are fun and all... but why not go for a little of both

I’ll be running the same two flavors ( clones ) strain TBD I have some mothers I have to cut down to make some.

I’m really surprised to see this taking off - Looks like i should get some clones rooting asap!

Lots of good points here - same wattage will be ran - there may be some overlapping as I’m running a 4x8 but on two 4x4 trays.

I’ll be planting all on the same day - clones will all be taken on the same day rooted in the same conditions. should be fun!

Looming forward to getting back into the AC’d indoor room, summers been a little warm up here in Nor Cal.

I think comparison grows like this take off because it is 2 boards that people are actually buying and if you pay for that HLG 550v2 as a plug an play you are dropping 1k on a grow light. If you can purchase the same or equal plug an play from Alibaba for half the cost that is something people are interested in.

Put a dividing wall between the grow spaces or its a waste of time. Not hard to put up some plastic or insulation board. Do it right first go then the results can do the talking.
