Hole in closet door sucks..help

Hey everyone. I am going to grow indoors and outdoors this year. I only want to have about 5 plants total (two inside, three out) I am not as worried about growing outside as i am in. I will be working with a 5x5 room in an apartment and don't want to put any holes in the closet if i don't have to. I want to use a 400hps and a 400mh for the different growth stages. I am quite sure that my small closet will over heat with these lights. I will have a fan inside the closet for circulation and would love to have an intake and an exhaust but i am pretty sure i have to cut holes in the doors for both of those. Anyone have any ideas for good ventilation that does not involve holes in the door and huge tubing running through them out a window(My goal is to be able to have someone stand right by the grow room and not suspect a thing; but with holes and tubing that would not be likely) I know i have to worry about smell also so thats farther down the road.

Sorry my post is so long everyone
thanks a lot if you can help:joint::mrgreen:
maybe i will just have to use t5's or something. Anyone have any experience with T5's of CFL's?

if u dont want to put a hole in your door you can always open a window and leave ur door open when no one that you dont want to be around isnt. i mean really thats like a last resort thing but it would work

get your door measurements go to home depot and buy the cheapest fucking door thats the same size as yours(maybe the flat white ones, that are two pieces of plywood with nothing in between), replace your closet door with the one you bought and vent away, more expensive but it beats the alternative of leaving the door open with a ton of light pouring out.

then just keep people outta your room, leave it kinda messy and use that as your excuse

Yeah, that's it HoLE , he wants security inthe adjacent room. The only way I can think of is ,like you said up, into attic, or down, into cellar, but niether may be possible. When I was living in an apartment and growing in a closet,I ended up with the door open, closed it if someone came in. Still had heat problems though....:peace:

yeah the door idea is a good one, but it still sucks to have ducting running out of a hole of my closet across the ceiling(i assume) and out a window. Do i even need to do that, or can i just have an intake and an exhaust fan connected to the holes with no duct. Oh and if i left my door open for some of the day it would most likely stink my whole apt up, plus the hallway when you walk into the main building.

i cant beat that since it is in an apt. Its actually a closet. Maybe i could make a grow box and put that in the closet. Or i could buy a big cabinet/dresser and just put it out in the open in my room. I don't know man i am sick of pot being illegal. This is fucking ridiculous. I am about to go take my monthly drug test a 4:00. I wish they would not worry about what goes into my body.

Yeah it did smell a bit. You could smell it out in hallway too. I was just starting some plants for outdoors and they weren't there long. But I only did it once and was moving out that spring anyways...

Yeah man the issue of smell sucks. I love the smell more than anything i have ever smelled(fresh or burnt) and would love to smell it all day, but that is not going to be able to happen.
If i only had two DANK plants in a 5x5 closet would smell be a HUGE issue?

Buy a cheap door cut a hole in the bottom for intake and put carbon filter and exhaust fan in a hole in the top. Build a light baffle for the intake (check DYI threads) and cover openings with cheap plastic grilles from Home Despot or Wherever. This is probably the best solution, and is what I was going to do if I hadn't moved when I did. BTW you shouldn't need a fan for intake if you have a big enough exhaust fan. You will need an oscillating fan in that space though. Good Luck.

mod a cheap dresser cut the back out(keep it intact if u can) gut it then put a floor on it (so you can move it aroundw/o shit spilling all over) then push it up against a wall and grow away

u might wana put the back on or mod a back for it but you should be to do 2 plants np in a decent sized dresser

Other than the holes in the door, will i need to run some type of ducting outside of the door itself? Thats a lot of help man thanks. Oh and what is a light baffle?:peace:

Yeah man that is a great idea. Do you think i will need ducting to bring in (intake) fresh air from outside? And when people say run the ducting to your window what exactly does that mean. How would i make a hole in the window to fit the ducting. I don't like the idea of leaving the window propped open. I love this site, it has such a community feeling.

Too bad we all cant sit in a huge room and roll ounce blunts...or could we?

No , and you could cover the holes with plastic grilles so it just looks like a vented closet for clothes. A light baffle is just a duct with a right angle bend to block light. I've made them out of black cardboard before. There shouldbe a drawing on DYI somewhere. they aren't uncommon. Good luck with this, let us know how it turns out.

ahhh good old apartment growing... dont you love it when you new apartment has a HUGE closet.... i know i do :)

Seriously though, with your venting issue, i think the best idea thrown at you was the new door from HD and cut it up how you need to, personally i didnt want to buy a door so i leave me closet door open all day and my window wide open..... of course i have curtains on my window so no one sees my glowing closet.... That or get lights that don't put out as much heat, T5's or CFL's, thats what i am using, i would of spent more money venting my closet than i did on my whole cheapy setup if i setup my 1000watter. Everything has a time and place, and apartment closets are not the place for any HID lighting unless you want to run a portable AC unit in there....

Just my two cents about apartment growing.... if i didn't need a place to put my clothes i would of setup my 1000watter and my portable AC unit and grow the fuck out of that closet, but just not enough room and no way to make ventilation incorporated into the room (apartment in general you cant go cutting holes and shit cause you have to fix them or lose your deposit)

Yeah you are very right. Can i grow successfully and get a decent yield from t5's or even cfl's. Have you? Do you have a grow journal that i can see?

the only thing about using cfls is youll havta get loads of um to get a descent yeild which combined will put out alot of heat so you will still need ventilation,,if you buy ruck fans for example they will be a little noisey, acoustic ducting cuts the noise down almost to zero tho,,,,,,,so unfortunatly i think your guna havta do what you dont wana to get the results you want,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,peace

I am growing right now, no digital camera so i have yet to start a journal... i really want to start one though. Really CFL's and T5 yields have already been discussed pretty throughly, just do a search and remember more CFL's = more light = bigger plants = more yield.

To give you an idea of what i got going, i have two 48" T5 w/ 65k bulbs, two 36" T5's w/ 65k bulbs, and four 40w CFL's (right now, planning to add 5 to 10 more once I'm flowering) but all that light is for only 3 plants.... I have a small 8" fan going back and forth keeping my temp @ a nice 78.8 and RH at 52% (I'm running 24/0 right now so i dont have a lights off temp...) and I am using a simple soil grow with BIG 12 inch pots my girls will finish in (fox farm ocean forest potting soil). So yea, i mean this simple little setup cost me under $50 bucks (i already had the T5's fixtures cause I have lots of aquariums) and its off and running, growing like crazy.....

Just K.I.S.S.
