kind of looks like the bulb might not have been screwed in completely tight,no? might have created an arc...what it looks like to me. had that happen on a mag. ballast awhile back....

I have read in a number of places that the frequency from the digi's is causing premature falure of regular bulbs and shortened life. I have 3 lumatec digi but found the 400 did not like it when the power went out so went back to the old style. I would have a very serious issue with that's been happening, it would take one hell or an arc to blow a hole that big. Think fire! just waiting to happen., good luck it think I will unplug my last digi.

for starters do you got it plugged right into the wall if so try a breaker plug i am thinking you are getting power surges

cold your ballest be getting to hot and some kind of safety in it to cool down then when it cools it surges causeing failure i dont know bout them so i am just guessing they look like a power amp and most of the amps i know of have a cooling set up in them just a thought

"Lumatek Lighting Systems carry a 3 year replacement warranty + a 2 year pro-rated warranty (1 year on the bulb). All Lumatek Lighting Systems carry our Xclusive Replacement Warranty to ensure that you are always up and running."

Sounds like maybe you need to contact Lumatec about replacing both the bulb and ballast. With a picture like that to go along with the complaint, I doubt they would give you any grief.

Ime in the building game so I c things like that hapen now and again . From what I can c it looks like a power surge also wiring in house might have been compramised breaker between wall socket and setup is a verry good idia it will save u from fire . Could also be a loose wire somewhere that is cutting power without u nowing it and then turning back on over and over again that could also cause a surge . Good luck hope it works out . ps sorry for spelling I kinda suck at it lol :-P

I'm getting a little worried now as I have a Lumatec digital ballast (400 watt). I'm currently using just a regular surge protector; what sort of breaker set up should I get to prevent this kind of mishap?
