HomeMade CFL AeroGrow

What's Up Rollitup! I've been growing my ladies for about 2 weeks and decided it's time to start up a Grow Journal!!! I don't have an AeroGarden but my buddy MrAlex does. Instead of buying an AG myself, we decided it would be cheaper to build our own. I bought a ten gallon tote at WalMart and rigged it up exactly like the AG with 6 pods and a water flow system to each pod. I put a 12 inch airstone in the rez, but I might be adding a 2nd airstone soon. I started with 4 plants and I'm down to two right now!! I'm using standard AG nutes. I have 4 - 100 Watt equivalent daylight CFL's along with an 18inch fluorescent grow light. I'm a newbie to growing so all of your feed back is much appreciated. Ok, so here are some pix, let me know what you think...

Its lookin good man, didnt really need to make a drip system, and it would have been better if you have just made 4 grow spots, your pH seem really high, you checcing it at all

Im partially responsible for the drip system. I thought it was necessary and then I heard otherwise. but it looks sweet though lol. The Ph does seem high...

oh and the amount of grow spots is easily fixable... just get another lid at walmart..lol

holler...

GoodLuck Jon.

Good on ya for getting started! How much light are you going to build your setup up to? 106w of CFL + an 18" grow light that is prob throwing an extra 40w just won't be enough. I run 416w of CFL (that's 16 of those "100w equivalent" things)

Good luck dude, I'm gonna keep an eye on this to see how it works out for ya. Props on taking the first step!

My PH level is high and is the reason for my leaves turning yellow. I am going to add an extra air pump and air stone as well as changing the water and only using Poland Spring water instead of a cheaper brand or tap water. Thats the only water I know of with really low PH levels.

If you dont have the AG grow light and you're just using daylight CFL's.... should there be soft white in there as well... like to get the full spectrum and shit...????

looking good man. The girls look much better. I like the new setup.... just make sure there is no light penetrating... I see the tote is white.. Have you put a flashlight to the side of it to see if there is light penetrating? If there is.... root rot will eventually fuck you. Very nice though...

oh and make sure you push those grow nets in good to the lid... looks like some light could get in through the front left one...

No light is penetrating at all, I tried to with about 3 different lights. I used 2 rolls of electrical tape around the bucket then i wrapped t in Mylar. The only white you can see on the bucket is really thick and I assure you that no light can or will penetrate through. The top is covered in Mylar as well and all the grow nets are pushed all the way down.

These pics are kinda old, I will update the pics this Friday and show how well they are doing during this stage of the growing process. All discoloration and any problems I had are well taking care of, I kinda neglected my babies the first 2 weeks of vegging. I'm gonna keep on with the 12/12 light cycle all the way through. :hump:

Nice man, thats what i like to see, Veg them for a couple more week before you switch to 12/12, they need some time to recover

They look pretty healthy as of now. The reason I'm doing 12/12 is because I want to see if I can grow some dwarf plants. I just wanted to try this once since I've seen many pics of them, they look real nice, Thats the only reason I switched to 12/12 so early.
