Hot attic grow need more cooling ideas?

I live close to the mexico border and it gets hot as hell around here. Ive been planing setting up a small grow room in my attic but am worried about heat issues. My grow space is gonna be 3x4x7. I want to have a passive intake and an exhaust fan. The room is going to be completley sealed from the attic but it will be getting in the 100s during mid summer. So will the exhaust be enough, the intake will be from inside air so i hope this will be sufficient. What do you guys think and what other things could i go for cooling. Also im going to have a 400w hps and cfl for side lighting and a small rotating fan inside as well. Any extra ideas would be much appreciated thanks :bigjoint:

Without a closed Co2 system, or an air conditioner, or both, you're fucked. Sorry. Attics are horrible places to try to grow. Find a new spot.

well if you are going to try it anyways...i would reconsider if possible...however...maybe try to do lights on at night time when its cooler in the attic...but yeah, you will need a constant exhaust fan going and some ac wouldnt hurt...even at night, temps prob wont drop below 80 - 85 in there without the lights on...seems like you are asking for trouble...i had plenty of heat problems and i wasnt in an attic at all.

Yea, they are a tough spot.

If it has to be there I would start with Styrofoam insulation on the ceiling of the area. Then make walls with it and seal it up. I would get my intake air from under the house and pump it in on one side of the area and exhaust on the other.
I would keep that constantly running.

For lights I would use a cool tube sucking the hot air out of the attic right by the bulb and outside. Then I would get an attic fan up there to help cool sown the rest of the attic. Then I would select a plant that grows in the desert. Like Kush or Mazar.

You will probably cook it anyway but there is a few ideas.
Good luck to ya.

Dude, do NOT grow in the attic with your situation, and definitely don't run the lights at night. Thermal imaging equipped helicopters fly around looking for heat signatures all the time, in that area and that's a dead give away. Seriously, find another place! Just trying to help here, not to discourage man.

i agree with the other poster that said to insulate.

you need to make a very well insulated room in the attic so as you can control the temperature in there better (remember insulation will keep heat out too!)

that will give you your best chance - whether or not you have to use a/c.

running the lights at night would be best and if you are well insulated then it may hide the heat signature too - but im no expert on that type of thing

Yall are dueche bags... Get a 4000btu window ac unit or a portable ac unit, 100-200$ cool tube the light and run exhaust. My room stays a constant 75 degrees and its next to my hot and humid londery room. It gets 100 degrees and 90% humidity in texas. I use a 5000btu a/c and a 50 pint dehumidifier with 2 600 watt hps and never have any problems. Its about taking the time and money to do it right

hmmm im liking the ideas this is what im thinking. I get a cheap window a/c unit 100$ not bad and i may get some radient barrier material and put that within the whole attic to keep temps down as a whole. So you think with exhaust and the a/c unit that would enough. Im not to worried about thermal its only one 400w. Also where should i place the a/c unit. Should it be sitting at the vent to the attic and have ducts to my grow room or just simply in the attic connected to the grow room. Oh and how much is a cheap dehumidifier? Thanks all :blsmoke:

Yo man I made a homemade a/c unit with a styrofoam cooler, computer fans, and 3" expandable ducting. I have 10 good sized reusable ice packs--5 go in the cooler, 5 stay in the freezer. In the morning (or twice a day if it gets hot) I switch them out. Check out my journal and you'll see, I've got a whole section about it. Works pretty well for me, and its cheaper than a window a/c unit. Got the idea from the DIY section on RIU (gotta give credit where credit's due!)
