Say a fire breaks out in your house and you lose everything. They find out you have a grow op in the basement, do you know if you are still covered for home insurance?

Most policies have an exclusion clause, if damage or loss is caused by criminal activity, NO COVERAGE.....but than again, every policy is different. Best advice I can give is READ the exclusions part of your policy...

Its not illegal to grow tomatoes is it? Tell them it was tomatoes. All the evidence is destroyed right?

If they have any reason to suspect what you are growing to be federally illegal, the fire would be excluded. It is up to you to prove otherwise.

well i think the best idea would be to wire up your grow room properly... :/ that or USE CO2. either way it's all good. but yeh i agree with these guys... if your rly worried just put something that doesnt have anything to do with the cultivation of cannabis in your grow room .... there you have it .... proof that you don't grow cannabis only......lol

you cant prove the grow didnt start the fire causer everything is burnt up and they will find a reason to deny your coverage because as soon as you say that "My grow didnt start the fire" you are toast

Normally an Investigator from the fire department will try to determine where the fire started. If there isn't any indication that it started in your grow room -- don't say anything about having a grow room.
If they determine that the fire originated from that room -- then....... idk, I don't have an answer for that -- but I would definitely be reading my Insurance policy over in it's entirety.... and include any and all small print!!

Here is an idea...Your house right? Use the right voltage for the breaker. If you are using more then the maximum for that breaker dedicate a Breaker for that wall. Use UL and correct wattage timers. Keep it dry and be conscious of heat output.

Read your policy. If your in a medical state and have proper paper work to grow then simply contact you insurance agent and inform them of your intentions. They will tell you what requirements need to be met. Certainly if you were growing tomatoes the only quest would be if all of your equipment was UL listed and being used properly.
In the real world though anything the insurnace company can use to get out of paying will be used.
