How are the California Rolling BlackOuts affecting you grow?

Almost exactly a year ago, PG&E warned us for 4 days they were gonna shut off the power because of the wind. They didn’t and their shit started a fire that took out my whole town and lots of other shit in nearby towns in The Camp Fire.
Now, they are shutting it down just like THAT! I’ve lost power every single time they warned. The last was from Saturday to Wednesday. Right now i’m not growing any indoor, still trying to rebuild but soon will be, but I’m backfeeding the panel on the pole near my 5th wheel trailer with a 9kw portable gen that runs off propane and gas.
As soon as I can and before next fire season, after shop is done and the grow is going, i’ll put in a larger whole house backup gen and when power is cut i’ll probably just run a few lights until power is back up.

Sorry to hear about all the tragedy you have gone through. I admire your courage and strength to persevere through it all. I wish you all the best. How many months of the year do you think you will be experiencing rolling blackouts? I heard people are leaving cali by the droves because of how difficult this is on businesses and just daily life in general. Thank you for sharing your story and good luck with the build. Looking fantastic!

You’re awesome thank you

Of course there’s pretty much a fire season damn near all year long now, It’s looking like it’s September~November. Without any rain and the very dry northern winds getting stronger and stronger, it’s all bad.

Just a thought?

Seriously though at what point do you just have to think about moving out of Cali? I burnt my house down as a kid and am pretty freaked out about fire, and could not imagine how scary this is for you guys.

I left California a year ago. I don’t plan on going back. Sorry to hear about your house burning down like that as a child.

I lived in Oakland California when the Berkeley/Oakland Firestorm of 1991 hit. Very sad and very frightening.

I heard yesterday on the news that the icebergs in the Antarctic which are melting are causing the ulta heavy snowstorms in the Rockies of Colorado and in return are producing the hurricane force winds driving into California helping to ignite the forceful fires.

That makes me feel like we are doomed and there is nothing that’s gonna help us at this point. How in the fuck can we stop the ice from melting at this rate ?causing this chain reaction of destructiveness...Some people say it’s too late , and we are the point of no return.

We might be with respect to the next ice age, but we will survive, we will just have to move inland and maybe go underground a bit. And be a lot lot cleaner.

Inside the Tool album Ænima behind the CD there is a lenticular map of the western part of the United States of America showing California before and after an earthquake basically creating an “Arizona Bay.”
Arizona Bay Tool Ænima California Earthquake
In the Tool song also titled “Ænima” the lyrics include the words
“Learn to swim, see you down in Arizona Bay”
“Arizona Bay” is an album by the late comedian Bill Hicks which whom the album Ænima is dedicated to. In his skit “Arizona Bay“, Hicks stated how happy he’ll be when the next big quake will sink Los Angeles into the ocean.
“Ahhh, it’s gone, it’s gone, it’s gone…All the shitty shows are gone, all the idiots screaming in the fucking wind are dead, I love it…leaving nothing but a cool, beautiful serenity called Arizona Bay. That’s right, when L.A. falls in the fucking ocean and is flushed away, all it will leave is Arizona Bay.”

I'm in a mountainous area of Northern California and we're usually at the longer end of the shutdowns. I think we had a 4-day, a 3-day, plus a few 2-day shutdowns. We use a generator for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening to keep food from spoiling, recharge batteries/phones, watch some tv and surf the interwebs. We have a small battery generator that will charge phones and run a low wattage led lamp overnight. I'm also working on a small solar setup of around 900w. I do think the fires will cause us to leave this area eventually, maybe the state.

Playing the long game, I think PGE is incentivised to be annoying with their shutdowns as a method of pressuring the state to enact legislation which will reduce or remove their liability. Before the recent batch of outages, they were flying all the lines *twice* with a heli to look for downed trees as part of their newly added safety precautions, but the recent outages were so widespread, that became far more expensive, so they're not doing it anymore. Already back to sacrificing safety in favor of economics, same thing they've been doing for decades.

I too am in N. Cali - Shasta County.

The thing that I wonder about is ... what are we doing to the ecology by NOT producing electricity by hydro, but forcing each individual household to burn fossil fuels to do the job? Small engines are not known for being kind to the air. Now, we got a LOT of em humming.

Oh ... wait, I know how to solve that. Make a smog check on your generator mandatory, yearly (for a small fee of course).
And ... we need to increase taxes on gasoline to offset the damage to the air.

Yea, that should do it.

The fuck are you talking about?
What does any of what you posted matter when it is PG&E who is shutting off the power during windy days because their equipment is shitty? Hydro power vs. small engines? What?

What I'm talking about is air pollution.
California's electricity comes from (mostly) hydro power.
Running water through a turbo generator does not burn fossil fuels, it is clean energy.

When PG&E cuts power, I run out and start my gas generator. That is not clean energy. It puts pollutants into the air.
I'm not the only one doing that ... that's all I'm saying.

You don't have to get all pissed off at me. I'm not defending PG&E, I'm just sayin ...
Sorry to have interrupted, I thought this thread was open to all.
