We're not even that evolved either; we just happened to evolve opposable thumbs so many thousands of years ago one of us was able to pick up a big stick and start smashing things.

Once we felt safe with our stick we learnt to evolve less for direct barehanded defence and more towards tools which were way more effective.

Until the middle of last century we were still extremely primitive...sadly some of us still are.

It has to do with the PC culture, and the quickness to label people to make a point. Generalizations are such a poor way to pose an argument, yet with social media, and headliners, it's very effective. So when I see people saying all right wingers are dumb, racist, xeno, I don't give them any respect.

Historically I'm liberal, with antigun beliefs, a devout athiest and pro choice. With that said, I also believe in yin and yang when it comes to government, so I tend to sway one way or the other every 4-8 years. I just don't trust Hilary, I think she is bad roll model for women staying with her lying, cheating husband. I don't think it is ok to stand by a spouse that has cheated on multiple occasions, I believe she is the house of cards type politician... not to that extreme by any means though.

I wanted an outsider in, badly. Unfortunately, it was this buffoon Donald Trump... If I had my way, I would have much preferred Perot. I think this past election will change political strategies for decades to come, and for the better. Hopefully people will realize that whining, lying in streets, labeling, and shaming people to get your way is not an effective tactic anymore. I hope we see a shift!

While I may disagree on several points above, you're right on the main one; there's no future in being disagreeable. In fact, such tactics play into the hands of those who would seek to gain power by exploiting division and as such do not lead to solutions.

So how to move forward?

I voted for Bernie in the primary, but he didn't win. Maybe it was a fair contest and maybe not- but the appearance of foul play was a disaster for the whole party. By the time of the general election, the Clinton campaign had so much baggage it was dragged down. There is by now no debating the fact that she would have made the better President.

I hope we learn the lessons of the present- but we learned them 100 years ago as well... And then we forgot them.

Please read the thread I posted about Stephen Hawking's prediction. We either learn to work together or we all perish, in a planet wide Easter Island of our own making.

It was too full of conflict within the Democratic party that trump just slid in. While trump is busy gutting the EPA and trying to destroy health care people are still arguing about Bernie vs Hillary. It's sadly funny. But next election I don't think a republican will even get 1/3rd of the vote unless they campaign on the fact they aren't trump. The one good thing about all this is that the house will be a democrat majority soon.. if Trump can squeak by that long

25 years of propaganda against the Clintons had a lot more to do with the result. The lie was swallowed whole by the people on the left and the right.

The right wing propaganda machine did not stop working when Clinton lost. They are still active. Limbaugh counseled Democrats to stop supporting immigrants because it's a losing issue for them. Because "they broke the law". True enough that many are here illegally. That's only part of the picture such as 11 million people would have to be rounded up, breaking families and the very real recessionary effect of shrinking the work force by 5%. The right wing propaganda organ appeals to their followers by preaching morality of rounding up "lawbreakers". A key aspect of propaganda is to publicize falsehoods that contain a shred of fact.
