How can I join you?

Hello my friends to the north!

My wife and I are growing more and more concerned with the US and don't know if we want to stay here.

I've always admired Canada.

Is it difficult to obtain residency there? If so, anyone have any tips?

Where would a Colorado family feel most at home up there?

Sorry if these are dumb questions... Figured I'd ask my own kind before asking any official type people.

Here we go figured these threads would start soon

Everything you'd need to know about immigration is found on the immigration services website of Canada
Hope you have a shit ton of cash and a real job

Otherwise you can purchase a home and stay 6 months before having to leave

Oh and expect an extremely lengthy and costly process
If you don't have the funds don't bother trying or you'll have to start all over again

Really though immigration website will give you all you need to know

Don't even bother day dreaming it until you know you can afford to do it
Or if the country will even just accept you

Wow man, kinda harsh vibe there.

I do have a real job, and make real good money. But maybe with attitudes like that you Canadians aren't all that you're cracked up to be, eh?

We aren't all intolerant opportunists who demonize people just because they come from a certain region of the world.

Maybe I will move to Mexico instead... Wonder if I could take a night job growing for the cartel?

All we hear all the time is how you guys are gunna just move to Canada because of trump

My advice was honest because I happen to know something about immigration going through it
I'm not being a dick when I say I hope you have a good job I'm being realistic you have to have a career with a lot of money in order to immigrate unless you decide to marry a Canadian but you're already married
Therefore the government is going to look to you as someone who needs to be able to support themselves with mass funds

I'm being honest with you
Go to the immigration website and see if you even remotely qualify before day dreaming

Otherwise you can take my advice invest in property and stay for 6 months on seasonal vacation

I can understand the frustration you must be feeling. I would not like the idea of hoards of obese idiots storming my country either.

I appreciate the advice. Sorry, I'm bitchy. Stuck at work in the middle of the night when I'm supposed to be on vacation.

I will investigate further tomorrow. To be honest Canada is plan B for us, as my wife is working on her doctorate in history. Specifically the Iberian pinensula. Spain is plan A.

I hear the weather is a little better there.

Yes weather much better in Spain lol !

I'm just being honest sorry it's not an easy thing to do immigrate to another country if it's not via marriage

It's very very costly defiantly give a read on the website

I would wait until she's done her doctorate seriously I can't transfer half my credits for my bachelors so I have to retake half of everything

I remember reading Australia's immigration rules years ago.
Hard country to become a citizen as well.
I think you had to have a business and so much money to get in.

Moving to Mexico requires some cash as well.

New Residency Income Requirements

Most people who move to the country for the weather, culture, or lower expenses are coming on a non-working visa, which means they must show the means to support themselves. For most retirees, that’s relatively straightforward. Technically the requirement is an income of $2,000 per month for one person or $2,500 for a couple. This normally equates to some kind of pension or IRA/401K regular withdrawal in addition to Social Security, but I’ve heard many cases where the income requirements were softened for retirees who could also show some assets in terms of savings or real estate.

In case you’re wondering, that monthly amount is calculated to be roughly 400 times the daily minimum wage for Mexico, which is between 63.77 and 67.29.pesos (about $5).

For those who are not retired, requirements are the same on paper but consulate or embassy personnel seem to be requiring a higher income level. This often comes out to $2,500 per month for a single person, then $500 for each dependent. The local consulate or embassy apparently has the latitude to demand more, however, as the one where I started my process (in Orlando, Florida) wanted to see a bare minimum of $4,000 a month flowing through my checking account for myself, my wife, and my daughter and mentioned at one point that we were okay since my income was “more than $5,000 per month.” Whether this was the result of inexperience with the new laws in a little-visited consulate or a liberal interpretation of the rules, I don’t know. As the laws are written, showing assets of more than $126,000 is supposed to suffice in lieu of a steady income, but in my case neither retirement savings accounts nor real estate owned outright in Mexico seemed to factor at all into the decision.

I can't help with immigration advice as I have never had to deal with it, but I know it isn't easy. I think the easiest way is to apply for a temp. visa and and then start the process. I have a cousin (Canadian) that has worked for a US state government for 20 years and he is running into issues with getting his wife (American) permanent residence status to move back here. As far as WHERE to relocate, BC would be my choice. Eastern BC is similar to Colorado in geography and weather, but I prefer the coast...it's warmer and marijuana is very much a part of the culture.

take a trip to the middle east then destroy your ID and come to Canada as a refugee I see you got the beard so just wrap a towel around your head and you should be good to go. just kidding of course but lately that seems like the easiest way in.
They will ship him to America instead hahaha

I'm finally off work and on to my 4 day vacation. Looks like it will start on the webs.

Thanks, Sunni, for the link. I'm going to see if I qualify right now.

Nice comments everyone else. They are definitely appreciated! :)

Happily Hazed,
Jake
