How close can a cooltubed 400W hps get to the plant

How close can I put my 400W HPS to the plant if it has a cooltube on it

anyone able to help me with this? I dont wanna put it too close. never used a cooltube before, so any help would be awesome.

You should be able to safely put the light about 20" from the tops of the plants. Do you have a thermometer/hygrometer with a remote wire or wireless remote for the outside temp? Mine has the remote wire so what I do is run the remote wire down the chain hanging my lights and let the remote dangle about 6" above my plant tops. That gives me an accurate temp reading directly below my lights and allows me to ensure that the temp at my canopy never goes above 82F.

nah i dont have one with a wire, but thats a good idea and ill probably get one. thanks for the info

With air cooled tube reflector , at least for the 400w MH and HPS that I use and if it has safety glass 2 or 3 in is sufficient. (shower stall grow area approx 3x3x7.

I meant 2 or3 inches and 3x3x7 feet.

Putting any HID lamp 2"-3" from the tops of your plants will burn the shit out of them, regardless of whether it's a cool-tube or not. I'd say you want that lamp no closer than 16"-18" from the canopy. It would be a safe plan to start with it at 24" from the tops and gradually lower it, little by little, until you find the threshold.

i figured u were right, when i seen the other guy say 2-3 i was like, ummmmmm..........

hey bro, i would say thats 1oo % correct to lower it gradually till u find the sweet spot. i have the 4oo watt cool tube from HTG and the last 2 weeks of my harvest i put mine like 2-3 inches away and it was fine. however that might nt work for everyone.. mine is bein cooled by a stanley blower on High, so its completley cool to the touch.. i know it WOULDVE burned the shit outta them before i got the stanley, but i just figured id try it and the actually did wonderfully. in fact they started growin a shit load of new white hairs every were. hope this helps just wanted to explain another side to the story, so u dont think u absolutly CANT get any closer than 16 inches or somethin.
