You get a line (not too thin), tie one end to the top of the plant and a weight to the other.
Or you can tie the line to the pot rim.
Or you could supercrop the plant by squeezing the stem (google it).
Or you could use a screen and bend it below the screen. (google SCROG or look at my journals)

first things first...utilizing your space with the proper species is the first thing to check...if you are growing something with a sativa strain then you may want to start over with something Indica... then you can always bend the stems down and tie them to the corners of your container (never use plastic for containers) by poking a small hole in the material and using either thread or string to tie the end of your stem. Look up trellis sysyems for any idea you may be trying to utilize for your space....also usung MH lamps will allow the plant to grow with shorter intervals... trellising your plant will allow all that undergrowth to get light!!!!

on a more advanced note: there are a number of growth inhibitors out there that can help but please use with caution, a little can really mess with the genetics and "affected" plants carry through to their clones if you are intending to take any from your mother plant.

all depends on your situation. I personally like using Uncle Bens topping technique for 2 or 4 main colas. but if space is a issue, LSTing is the best.
