I have a SuperSilverHaze that I revegetated after last seasons outdoor grow. She has given me about 400 clones over the past 6 months, but now the new growth tips are more of a hard wood variety (and rather thin), rather than those beautiful soft growth tips.
I know I can start new mothers, but I hate to give up on a plant that was giving me 50 clones at a time. I need that many clones because I have a SOG operation using 180 plants.
I only can come up with a couple ideas:
1. Cut it back really hard, so there are fewer shoots. Hopefully because of the fewer shoots, they will be more lush and soft.
My concern is that I killed 4 bonsai mothers from seed trying that approach, although I may have waited too long to cut them back. They were 6 months old, and were at the point where they were giving the same, thin and woody clones as I am now getting from the Mom.
2. Flower the mother plant briefly, and then revegetate. This is what I am most inclined to do.
Obviously, the time factor is an issue, but worth it if it works. And then the question would be how long to send it into flowering before revegging?
I know there is an extremely resourceful and experienced grower that can guide me in the right direction so I don't kill things. I did many searches before I posted......nobody has asked this, although there were a couple side mentions that didn't address what I need to know.
