im growing a blue mystic in my small 4 ft. by 2ft box using a 150 watt hps. im five days into flowering and my problem is that all the lower vegetation is not getting any light due to the big fan leaves, how am i suposed ti trim her? and should i? im just afraid that i will trim to much. by the way my plant is about 2 ft high with 7 nodes so there is plenty of leaves that are getting in the way what should i do?

Is there enough room to incorperate some cfl's maby ? you can place them under the canopy of growth to get light to the lower sections if you have a way to get them there . I have seen set ups with the cfl's clipped right to the grow containers to point light up . There is also some help with using mylar to reflect the light around more or even flat white paint helps . You may also want to start pulling the top over to one side if havn't already ... this helps get light further down the plant ... just do it slowly if your going very far with it - hope this helps some

You can pinch the taller stems and lay them down to even the canopy. The plant will repair it and it produces more branching. Details in my signature link below...

Does he really want to be doing this 5 days into flower?

I know what the OP is asking but there is such a complete lack of information as to not being able to formulate an answer. Even to the point of growing in a 2 dimensional room.

Don't cut shit during flower.

It's in my sig my man..... I'm doing and gaining first handed experience. The plant repairs itself just fine, and I've gained a lot of new growth tops. Follow along with my grow, link in my sig. And as for your "don't cut shit during flower", that is your opinion, it is not based on actual fact. I trimmed my plants up until 3 weeks in flower and got more than 2.5 ounces of of each plant, so don't preach the ol, don't touch that leaf melody to me please... lol :)

Yea , I was looking at alternatives to cutting as cutting is usually not done in the flowering stage but if none of the formentioned helps ... try it - cut away some of the bigger fans on one side and if it doesnt stress it too much maby do the other side in a week or so .... but I fully agree with the earier post as in more light versus less plant . Good luck

btw .. if possible some pics would really help us see the situation you are facing

Keep in mind, don't go nuts cutting fan leaves off of main stems just to light small bottom growth. Those buds will never amount to anything more than airy popcorn buds. There is no sense in sacrificing your main cola's solar panels to gain a g or two of loose airy bud. I do trim fan leaves off that are down low and inside the plant. I like to keep a clean under canopy for air flow and to prevent pests. Be selective about what you cut off. If the benefit doesn't outweigh the loss, then don't cut it. I'm a believer in pruning and selective cutting, however those lower buds are rarely worth it. Most of my leaf removal in flowering is to promote air flow, sometimes for light, especially in my scrog if the fan leaf doesn't cooperate. :)

yeah, some pics would be awesome! :)

great thread as i'm in the same position right now! + rep to serap as he's helped me in the past! My last grow (or should i say first hah) I did no real cutting on the bottom, instead did what others suggested and put a few cfl's down there. After this I recommend both opinions! Even with the CFL's down there I got quite a few tiny tiny nugs that ya will get you high but can't help wonder if the plant was focusing on the top cola instead of these little guys if it would be better. Now im' in day 5 of flowering as well and have heard some say you can cut and some say best to do during veg only. Just listen to these guys and cut a small amount at a time. Too much stress will hermi your plants and that is a sad development!

my own little question is...... I wanted to trim a few of my bottom fan leaves and even a couple bottom stems that are showing small flowers. Today is my water/feed day so should I cut before I feed, right after, or a day or two after i feed? or does it not really matter?

great thread as many beginners can learn from this!
