How do you LST?

From browsing this board, particularly the "Show me your LST" thread, it seems like many people in here Low Stress Train their plants differently.

For those of you who have performed LST, which method worked best for you:

a) Tying the main stem down, circiling around the edge of the pot
b) Leave the main stem, but tie down the branches only so they grow vertical
c) other method

What works best for you?

after i top my plant, do i tie down each new stem in a different direction?
and how about just tying the side branches?

Yo - my 2 cents... probably the best LST thread on RIU: https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/189776-everything-you-need-know-about.html

Personally, I tie down the whole main stem after it has about 4-5 nodes and watch the middle part of the stem to see the new branch development before I do anything...some strains don't respond well to LST and those ones you don't usually see much branching at that point - good sign to watch for. Also as mentioned, it's a good idea to top the plant just before you LST it - that way the plant will better disperse it's energy to the lower nodes. I try to stay away from tieing down fan leaves as it just causes more stress to the plant - I usually try to just tuck them under as best I can to give everything the same amount of light... hope that helps! :leaf:

Usually I'll start with clones b/c they can branch from the medium with seed there's some stretch. I'll let the clone root and shoot a few new nodes and then top. Once top'd branches will immediately start to compete to become the leader/ main stem due to hormones being produced by the plant. Usually these hormones are greatest in the top branches but dispersed when there is no leader. I use this to my advantage thru LST. I've tried many different ways of training plants but they seem to pretty much be the same. I grow scrog style and perpetually so LST is a must. All my veg plants are tied down so eventually they can be placed under a screen. The best way I have found is to tie slip knots in the end of the string so as the stem grows the knot gets bigger and it's easier to take the knot out and move it further down the stem. The other end tied to the pot. I use short and wide pots made from 18 gal rubermade tubs cut down to about 7 inches tall. If you use smaller circumference pots it will be harder to keep the branches down once they get longer you'd have to use bamboo stakes pointed on annangle outward from the pot to really pull the plant apart.

The main goal for me atleast with LST is tying all the main branches downward so the hormones produced by the plant are always pushing for more branches to be produced for the plant to grow upward. As you tie every branch down the nodes are pushed into beaches faster than normal creating a large bush if you continue to do this you'll end up with a plant with alot of tops.

If you do this to plants destine to go outside you'll end up with monster bushes yielding lbs instead of ozs

i take the main head tie it down..start forming a half a circle..and while the other shoots grow i tie those down too..u just gotta keep a even canopy and u should do fine..LST'n is so easy its not even funny..the only thing i hate is when i water the ties get in my way so i spill water sometimes
