I've always tried to keep my light (1000w) as close to the canopy as possible without causing any burning. For me, that's around 18" (with a oscillating fan blowing right over the canopy to dissipate heat). I thought keeping the lights really high up caused stretching (not to mention being an inefficient use of the light). 3ft. seems awfully high. Is that as low as you're able to go without burning? If so, maybe it's the fan making all the difference for me.

^^^ Yeah, on second thought, I'd probably say that 18" is the maximum that I raise my lights from the canopy. 16" seems more accurate.

Try to get as close as you can, without burning your plants, and still high enough to spread your light over the entire garden.
As you raise or lower the light, you should see the shadow of the reflector on the wall, raise it enough just so the shadow is
above the edge of the canopy. I hope this helps.
Remember, you lose 1/2 your lumens after the 1st 12" every 6" thereafter. For example, 100 lumens @ 12", 50 lumens @
18", 25 lumens @ 24". So closer the better.

as for humidity i try to keep it in veg around 60 to 70 and in flower first 3 weeks i run humidifier trying to maintain min 60- 70 then starting forth week dropping 45 - 55 - and final weeks 40 i find dropping humidity to fast in flower can cause you major issues being you were running fairly high humidity in veg and to all of a sudden drop it to low 40's when you hit flower can cause major side effects to a plant

If you run cooled hoods and have the proper ventilation in CFMs running thru them you can get them quite close.
I have 2 - 1000 watt dual arcs in 8" vented hoods. My canopy is about a foot away from the glass. Some nugs are as close as 8" w/o burn.
Trying to keep humidity under or around 50RH for flower.

Best of luck with your grow!

Thanks man. Ya right now I have a 1000w dual arc as well and uhhh... cant remember size of reflector but its the yealdmaster 2 and was 95 bucks. It does have ventallation holes and glass bottom too. right now i just have an inline taking air out at the top and the light was actually WARMING my room up since it was sooo cold. right now its like 76-79. Once i get all my ventalation set up ill deff have them closer to the light. Thanks for the post bud!! + rep :)
