how far to put away light

i bought a 150 watt hps light and i was wondering how far do i need to put it away from a 30gal Rubbermaid container, i am doing bubbleponics

i would also like to know how far when they are seedlings, sprouting, maturing and flowering

well your light really isnt gonna get that hot..so it can be pretty close...heres a rule of thumb put your hand over the plant and if its to hot for your hand then its to hot for your plant
