I'll give you a piece of free advice that will change how you grow and feed in coco.

Firstly what ppm's are you currently feeding at?

Here's the golden secret.

Water until you get 20% runoff.

Test the ppm's.

Higher reading coming out then going in, reduce strength.

Lower reading coming out then going in, increase strength.

Look for the sweet spot where its almost the same coming out as it is going in.

SIMPLES!!!!

If you're getting 20% runoff test it next time.

If its coming out 100ppms higher or lower then adjust in the opposite direction the same amount.

Make sense?

Nice rule of thumb. In your experience, what has been the sweet spot for you in EC?

EC is my thing. I don't really like ppm's.

Once there past 2-3weeks my sweet spot is around 1.2-1.4. Sometimes I run a PK1314 hit at 1.7 for a week.

I generally only adjust my feed by 0.2EC whenever it comes out lower then it went in.

For example going in at 1EC coming out at 0.6EC I would up feed next time to 1.2EC.

If it was going in at 1.4EC ( i only adjust if it comes out +0.2EC) and came out at 1.8EC I would adjust next feed to 1.0EC for 2 feeds to see what it then came out at.

If you get a serious increase and have to flush immediately give a weak nute strength feed STRAIGHT AFTER FLUSHING.

By doing this method and only ever feeding what the plant is using I never flush. Not even to harvest.

I like to maintain my PPM EC X 500 in coco at about 800 -1000 once in vegative stage and in flowering I will hit them even harder .. Each environment will have a factor upon growth and feeding strengths , so you will have to dial it in and set according to your own plants and there response

@jondaman I take it you use Canna? Does this rule of thumb apply regardless of the nute brand? I'm thinking yes. Do you use any other sups? reason I asked is that Canna has pk 13/14 which I believe is like Koolbloom but you only use it right after the stretch. It's cheaper too, coming in @ 20$/L. I just got some Canna to try and find it a little weak but it is cheaper than say H&G . Out of all the nutes you tried in Coco, which do you recommend? Thanks man.

I will say Dyna Foliage pro with cal/mag is excellent for veg in coco.

1200 PPM is middle of the road for a blooming plant in my opinion.I start at around 700, increasing weekly by 100 until I reach 1200 PPM, which I maintain until the last couple of weeks when I use water only. You can go higher depending on the plant, but 1200 PPM is pretty safe and effective

I've tried a couple of brands here and there as samples etc. I've always gone back to Canna.

I don't use the Canna Coco range.

I use the following in coco,

CANNA AQUA VEGA A and B - NPK 6-3-8
CANNA RHIZOTONIC
CANNA PK1314
CANNA MONO Ca
CANNA MONO Mg
POTASSIUM SILICAT - silicon addtitive

Although Canna recommends using PK13/14 after the stretch IMO its too early and you have to look for the signs in the plant. Which IMO are when the buds start changing from a mass of pistils to actual buds.

I'm currently running a variety of cheese. I think its a blueberry cross. I've tried running full strength PK1314 From week3-6 on it. It was a little too long. I should have just used it starting week5.

But like I said PK1314 usage directions are a guide the plants tell you when.

Canna Mono products are strictly europe aren't they? I like how you have separate cal and mag. Have you tried Botanicare Cal/Mag in place of Mono? The only time I have trouble with coco is when the girls are young and I'm using first run coco. Maybe I ought to try a separate calcium product like humboldt Sea Cal that I can get here in the US. With cal/mag, i'm afraid I'm overdoing it with the Mg. Even with these limitations coco is the way to go IMO. Thanks Jondamon for all your intel.

OP: I run Dyna Foliage-pro at about 1.2 EC in Veg with a full 5ml/gal dose of Cal/Mag incorporated. That is in RO water.

Not sure if the mono nutes are strictly Europe???

I use 2ml of Ca and 2ml Mg in 18litres of water. I don't use RO just tap water.

Its a shame if the mono nutes are Europe only. They make IRON, ZINC, TRACE MIX, NITROGEN, PHOSPHOROUS, POTASSIUM, CALIUM, MAGNESIUM.

If you're worried about an Mg overdose it will appear as a calcium deficiency. FYI.

Do you use a silica additive?

IME a good hit of silica around week4 of flowering works wonders. Its also good to use it as pH up.

please don't follow this advice with dyna gro in coco - anyone who ever reads this in the future. if you run 1200 or anything even close to that with dyna gro in coco you will kill your plants.

I know the guy said with canna nutrients, but the subject was dyna gro nutrients - so beware!

yea I stick around 500 - 700ppm with foilage pro in veg, and apply just water with yucca occasionally. In flower I'm doing 750 - 850ppm FP, 1ml of Florablend and 1ml of liquid W8.

Big difference if one is talking about .5 ppm conversion, or .7
1200 ppm using the .5 conversion equals 1680 ppm using the .7 conversion.
IMO, EC should be the standard, unless the conversion to ppm factor is stated.
