How I Failed

Well I woke up to unfortunate news that my bagseed shriveled up today. It was about 5 days after its germination.
There's no photos to show due to technical difficulties atm but, I did keep a grow journal. Hopefully you won't ever go through my (embarassing) experience. In exchange I get some feed back for future grow.

For the first 5 days I germinated 3 seeds that came off some Trainwreck I purchased. I went straight to paper towel method and placed it in a 7 Inch record plastic sleeve to create humidity. 1 managed to sprout. (I'll take what I can thank you very much) the other two molded.

After that 1 seed sprouted I planted it into a solo cup (no cut bottom holes) with some soil from 99 cent store. I water roughly 5 oz and let it be underneath a 75 watt halogen flood phillips that was about 12 inches away.

Day 3 into its cup it sprouted. No extra solution though I really wanted in the back of my mind. Its light cycle had been on 24 throughout.

Day 4 I housed the plant into imo a pretty cool stealth grow. I used my old about 4` 1\2 speaker housing. This is where I began to fail. after noticing soil at the top was drying I replenished it. I brought the light significantly closer about 5 inches closer. I figure with the oscillating fan now in place it'll do some lst to it... but hind sight it was in fact too close and with it being watered it drooped to its side later that evening.

To remedy this I added some soil to be up position. and i thought itd heal itself...

Day 5 come this morning it shriveled up due to a combination of heat stress and shock with its change in enviornment.

So I'm bummed out folks... but you live and learn.

Mistakes in bold, conclusions too.

Halogen flood light?? Don't those things produce a shit ton of heat?

The bulb is a Reflector Argo from Philips upon closer inspection an ideal bulb for plants, it was just too close. (my friend gave me his equipment shortly after he stopped growing)

I forgot to mention after I put extra soil I then put holes at the bottom. That probably shocked my little one even more.

just start the seed in the final pot and you won't have this problem.

and a halogen flood lamp? put your thinking cap on before trying another grow... :wall:   :dunce:

Just get some cfls next time. Better yet some HO T5s, or hid if you can afford it. 150watt would work for one plant.

Live and learn. :)

I listed the wrong light source on my first post. It's a Reflector Argo from Philips.

I flipped on the light after giving the plant 6hr rest. I'll repot it in a day or when i can actually get the 5 gallon. unfortunately im on a tight budget.

From your experience do you think my hopes for survival on this plant is a long shot?

With no photos it's really hard to tell you anything. Generally though, seedlings do not need intense light; can't handle heat, adverse conditions as well as older plants can. Seedlings really don't need high humidity, even. High humidity, enclosed spaces can all be really bad. Containers need drainage holes, from the beginning. Don't LST your first seedling at 5 days old. I don't know.

If you want it to have any chance of survival, make sure whatever light you are using is not causing the temperature where the plant actually is (in the canopy) to exceed 86 F. No high humidity (they could rot), likewise no enclosed spaces if you can help it. The area itself needs to be ventilated properly.
