How important

Are reflector's of some sort. I really don't think it hurt's the plant's to not use them, it's just, you would get more light going back onto the plant if you used some reflection device. Im only 4 week's into my first grow, but I think my plant's are doing just dandy without kind of reflection device. I have 2 3000k CFL and 1 5000k with two 4' cool white tubes, a medium size fan, a tempature/humidity gauging apperatise, lol, which it stay's about 80f with 40-43% humidity. Im wondering if I should add some other CFL's with a different light spectrum, but I think im doing just fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :weed::clap:

Have a red light. Im not to sure about that. I've read someone on here, that used red and blue CFL's for his plant's. Which I never heard of before. My red light is just an incandescent I believe, I might be wrong, IDK. But should I throw that bad boy up too!?! Thanks:weed::clap:

If you do not consider reduced/lost bud production to be harmful, not to the plant maybe but to you, then don’t worry about a reflective hood for your light or lights. Heck if that is how you feel do not bother to use any reflective material on the walls of your grow room/area.

Light rays from artificial lighting degrade/weaken quickly so collecting/directing and concentrating them where you want and need them the most is very important to plant production. Any light rays that do not directly hit your plants or are not reflected back into your plants and or the light source/light reflection is to far from your plants is totally wasted light.

Many who use CFL’s will hang them at various levels above and beside their plants and the basic theory is the light will travel in all directions and with being close to the plants and between the plants little is wasted.

In a theory that sounds fine but CFL’s also are very weak and the light rays they produce do not travel as far and break down quickly so you can rely on them less to both penetrate into and through the canopy/leaves of your plants and also to reflect as much usable light back from whatever reflective material is used than from say what you will get using HID lighting.

That means using CFL’s without a reflective hood and quality reflective material you have increased the degree or amount of waste of light beyond that of doing the same with HID lighting due to the weakness of CFL’s.

CFL lovers will likely scream bloody murder that, that is untrue but regardless of their opinions it is true.

You want lighting, of whatever type, that produce the different light spectrums that plants require for their vegetative growth stage and also for their flowering growth stage.

If you meant a red light as in a regular light bulb that is red and not as in one where the Kelvin rating is in the red range, which it sure sounds like it is since you said it is an incandescent bulb, your red bulb is useless.

For the best vegetative growth you need lights that will put out more light in the blue light spectrum range.

For the flowering period you need lights that put out more light in the red light spectrum range.

No single light spectrum is best for growing from seedlings to harvest.

You need different spectrums most at different stages of growth.

You really do want some kind of reflector for the reasons stated, what is the point in light being wasted? I would never consider running an hps without a reflector, want my light shining down towards my plants, so should you, purely to maximise the lights you are using.
