How long should I veg?

1st timer here...growing hydro and things seem to be going pretty well (knock on wood). Into it just a little over a month and plants are around 14 inches and standing tall...White Widow. Is it too early to flower? Patience is not my virtue. Would love some input from some experts...

it is not too early to start flowering. A few people on here have told me they wait until the plants are at least 12 inches to flower. I personally like to veg 2-3 months just to get that little extra out of my efforts. Whatever sparks your bowl I guess.

I'm at a month too. About 12" high and looks green and healthy. Under a 250W MH, with smaller sibling. It hard to not check it from time to time. Mine likes folar feeding and a good feeding (soil grow) from time to time.

Pot Growing 101: Don't smoke it now, let it grow, man! Veal is good, but young pot sucks.

the clerk at the hydro store told me that anything over a foot in veg is a waist. he said some shit about anything over a foot doesnt get good light penetration at the lower levels, and its just waisted. is this true? i have an idea though, i have a 400W HPS, but i also bought 10 sockets for some CFLs, which will most likely add around 20 to 25000 more lumens. if i place these near the base of the plant, and shine them directly to the middle/bottom section from a sideways angle, would that help??

bagelthief, i believe that applies to using cfls only for your grow, using an HPS you can grow your plants taller.

I try and go about 40-45 days veg before 12/12. Your plants are the right height but give them a bit longer.

That's ectactly what I did. I have a 400w HPS and I added 3 23w(100w) cfls that add 1600 lumes per bulb. I put them on a circuit that runs on the timer for the HPS. The buds on the bottem of my plant aren't as far along as the tops because I didn't add the bulbs til week 4. I read i can harvest most of the tops and leave the bottem to finish flowering before I kill the plant. I will let you know how that works for me... or you can find out yourself by checking out my grow in my sig link..

Tell the clerk at the store they must be smoking too much to have never had or heard of the idea of side lighting. I use (2) 4' T5HO lamps on either side of my 8 plants (horizontal, not vertical). Because of them I have never had to cut off fan leaves that were blocking the main-overhead lighting and have been able to keep enough light at the base of the plant to satisfy the lower nodes.

Just remember that when you go to 12/12 they are going to grow more, sometimes double in size so keep that in mind.
