How long will a good strain last?

I ran into this strain about 1992. It is a really good indica. In fact I have never had better. This was only done and reproduced using cuttings. It has been a nice small personal hobby and I am not sure if I am getting used to it or it is loosing some effect.
It has been the same generation of plant all this time. Take cuttings and carry on.
It has really been looked after well with very minimal insect damage over the years and no real problems with any chemical situation.
My question is. how long will the strain keep its good quality high? Will it eventually get weaker? It has been quite awhile now but it doesn't seem to have lost much.
Anyone know?

Jesus christ you've been taken cuttings from the same plant since '92?!

And to answer your question: no, it won't get weaker. Actually, theoretically, it can only get stronger.

No not the same plant, but the next group of cuttings that get planted I take from them when they are ready to change to flowering cycle. It is the same strain but I take 1 or 2 cutting from each plant and then when I harvested that batch the cuttings are ready for planting. So it is the same strain but different plants each time.
I hope that explains it. But yes the same since then. Only because it was so good and never ran into anything better.
I heard that the strain gets weaker over time but it hasn't seem to , but I am not sure. Maybe building a tolerance.
I thought someone here would know.

I believe there is something called "genetic drift" when the genes mutate slightly over time........ I once had a Seed Bank Northern Lights 5X2 mother plant that yielded over 1000 cuttings- and only kept getting stronger (and flowered faster) over time. She lived for about 2 years- I just kept hacking off some old roots and repotting her in bigger and bigger containers over time.

Yes I have heard that but in my case I am using a new plant each time. It is the same strain that I am taking the cuttings from so that gets me wondering as I am hearing that the strain if looked after will last and last and then I hear that over time it will get weaker.
Who is correct? It has been 20 years now??
Just curious? I hope someone reads this and will know.

I know what you're saying - you are talking generations. You took a clone from the first plant to make a second plant. You take a clone from the second plant to make a third plant and so on... If you are taking four cuttings a year you would be on generation 64.

I did a quick search and found nothing. I have heard that their is a generational limit, but I have also heard that is a myth.

Not sure if this helps.
