Well, since u can put them in a triangle, you can use less lights, maybe like 7-14 or so depending on wattage.

btw, i think online might be the cheapest way to get em

you could cetainly grow a plant with 1-3 lights, just smaller yield.

Ive grown 1 plant with a single CFL flouro, and turned out just fine

well notice how i said 7-14 for 3 based on wattage and the yield you want. 7 is the lower end, then 14 would be the fat buds

its up to you, if its just a first grow then just experiment

my buddy has 6 lights and he got a good yield from 3 plants... keep in mind that they werent the biggest but its from personal use right

like look in the do it yourself section theres one topic called "4 oz box" or something and a guy grows in some rubbermaids with 6 bulbs and does pretty well

also the journal section there are a lot of people who test with different amounts... you just have to find the happy medium... im starting in the first of may with my own journal thats doing just that... i built a grow box over the past week for 3 plants and 6 bulbs...

im guessing cause youre asking for only 3 plants and cfl's you want something for personal... so i wouldn't worry about trying with 3 plants and cfl's worst case you kill off some
