How many plants should you run with this config

Hello everyone.

So I am going to be ordering 40+ cxb3950 36v cobs soon, and am just trying to figure out how many plants I should grow in my space. It's going to be a 40 ft ^2 area (8x5), and thus 1 COB per ft^2.
Couple other questions:
Would lenses be better for canopy penetration? Like a 120° lense vs 90° vs 90° reflector vs BARE

Was initially going to have 12 plants, but I feel like I should be able to grow more without hindering development of the others. If my math is right, then with 12 it's 90.25w per plant (if that even matters with cobs). I'll put some other numbers below.

Just want some input from more experienced growers! Thank you all for your time,
G

#'s:
PAR w = 856.8
PPFD = 1083 (or 975.08 with 10% loss)

EDIT::

I should also say that I am going to heavily LST or top and scrog

Layout as per canadian1969 requested:

If you can order the new vero 29 v7 they would be about $25 each and you could order half as many and run them at 100w each! if you want to save some money

Otherwise yeah just plan on 1 per sqft. But CXB 3590 are overpriced and not the top performer

Bare cobs will give you the best performance numbers

What would the numbers come out to be with those? PPFD etc.
Would be appreciated to back up your message with facts! (for me and others viewing)

your plan of 40 cree is a good one imo.for that many cobs i would go right to jerry @kingbright,i think the cobs will be about 31.00 plus shipping.12 inch spacing has worked awesome for me @ 1050ma,you could build at 1400ma and you will have plenty of light in there.gl

or you could run the 1818's which are pretty comparable to the 3590's for less money or for a little more and more output you could get the 1825's. Both of these Citi chips are killer

Awesome! Glad to hear it's working out for you with a similar setup. The driver I'm getting is 1050ma. Once I have a journal up we should compare.

Money isn't much of an issue, really just trying to get the best avail rn. I'll look into the 1825s, thanks :)

I would always recomend scroging as this is how you get the best yield for your area. A Scrog is only grown up a few inches then is pushed under and out to make the canopy, as opposed to a trellis which is a net used to support at a much higher height and requires longer veg times.
